Hotel Akapana is a beautiful place to stay while visiting Tiwanaku. A grand hotel located in front of Tiwanaku Archeological Site, this place provides everything you need for a comfortable stay. The owner/manager is warm, friendly, attentive and while a language barrier existed, google translate and big smiles bridge that gap. A wonderful host indeed! The hotel has seen its glory days but still offers comfort, security and a good place to rest. We stayed for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The rooms are basic but perfectly fine - beds were comfortable & clean. Fresh linen & ample blankets provided for warmth. The bathroom was clean & hygienic - shower had amazing hot water! Wifi worked well. The view from our room was spectacular, looking out over the Tiwanaku ruins. Breakfast was fresh scrambled eggs & bread, marmalade, coffee/tea. Everything is within easy walking distance - ruins, mini marts, museums, restaurants. The town itself is so peaceful, the locals are friendly, the scenery absolutely stunning! If you like a quiet, peaceful authentic experience, i would highly recommend spending a few nights here. The owner organised our transport back to La Paz - private car with a wonderful, safe driver - he took us to see some amazing viewpoints, took photos and was so sweet. Journey was only 2hrs also. My opinion of our time in Tiwanaku at Hotel Akapana is all positive and memorable. A very special stay 💕🙏

Perfect location! If you’re looking to explore and experience the culture this is the place!! Owner was exceptional and genuinely kind. Breakfast was cooked at your convenience. Any transportation needed what’s set up by hotel. We had absolutely no stress and free to visit the ruins as many times as we wanted sometimes we were the only ones there perfect experience.

Excellent customer service! We did some research about the area and knew it would be cold at night with limited heat, so we packed accordingly. Rooms were clean and the breakfast was great! We liked the fact that we had a safe place to stay without having to rush the trip and try to see everything in one day. Did Tiwanaku and museums on day one and Puma Punku on day two. We walked around and ate at a restaurant in town, great food and the locals were very friendly. We speak no spanish but had no issues.

Stellar customer service is the hallmark of this property. Pablo, the owner’s nephew was the hotel manager and he went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. We were one of two guest rooms booked during this off season, and when I inquired about where we could find dinner, he said they could prepare some for us and what time would we like to eat? We were the only ones eating, yet he made sure he turned on the music for atmosphere. The breakfast (included with your room) was delicious. The hotel itself is situated closest to Tiwanaku and rooms with views of the monument are recommended. Pablo arranged for us to meet an English-speaking guide at Tiwanaku (make sure you book in advance as there are only 3 English speakers right now). When the time came to leave , we asked about a taxi to La Paz and Pablo offered to take us himself! Couldn’t ask for better customer service! Thank you so much, We highly recommend!

Conveniently located for a visit to the Tiwanaku ruins (next door), this hotel makes an ok stop after crossing the border from Peru at Desaguadero. It bills itself as '4-star', but it's not really. Spacious hotel has seen better days and feels a bit neglected inside. Very friendly and helpful staff, and a decent meal was provided (although the restaurant was not open). Secure parking was a plus. Bed was completely knackered and felt like most of the springs had collapsed. Water warmish-hot after about 5 mins of running the tap. Good wifi was a suprise.

This property advised as a 4 star hotel. The rooms are cold, no heat. Uncomfortable bed, no tv, old furniture, not even hangers for your clothes. Expedia overcharges for the room, saying that the hotel is fully booked. I think I was the only guest, haven't seen anyone else. In the future I will avoid using Expedia because they always overcharge for hotel rooms.

37 degrees out and no heat. Our room was filthy. Garbage left in room from previous guest. No staff in hotel after 10pm, lights turned out in hallways, etc. very flimsy door, and people knew which rooms were occupied because other rooms had keys in keyhole. Felt unsafe. The heat was the biggest problem though. Froze to death

We have been the place 2 years ago. It was packed. This trip, it seems we had arrived in off season. The gigantic hotel only host a few international travelers, which is not a bad idea. The Hotel is just right next to the Tiwanaku site: walk out the door in 1 min, you are at the ticket booth. We were planing to take 2 days to enjoy the sites ( 2 museums and 2 sites), however, the expensive ticket seems valid for only the same day. We talked with the guard and mentioned we stayed at Hotel Akapana, it actually worked out. This is Hotel designed for hardcore Tiwanaku fever enthusiasts! Enjoy the breakfast which having the Sun Gate and Moon Gate in your sight. If Owner Rosario is at Hotel, she was in New Jersey 20 plus years, it will be easier to communicate in English. Kitchen can provide lunch and dinner, but we have to mention it before hand, they will need to prepare the materials fresh. If you go, don't forget to grab a local beer or wine from their inventory. $10 a bottle of wine...not bad! Don't forget to explore their big court yard, there is a friendly dog who is very happy to meet new friends. If you ran out of Bolivianos, Wilie in the hotel can help you. Veronica and Ms. in the kitchen, will try to make a pancake for you in the morning, if you mention it to them. If you like star gazing, it is fairly quiet during the night!

This hotel places you one block from the entrance to the archeological site of Tiwanaku. Willy, who is managing Hotel Akapana, is knowledgeable about the history and significance of the site, but further, is a really nice guy who does whatever he can to help you with your stay. Very nice meals are available at the hotel as well. I recommend.

It was close to Tiwanaku and the museum. It also looked nice on the outside. The roof leaked in the lobby. I took a shower and got shocked by electricity when I tried touching the water valves. I had to get out of the shower, dry myself off, put my rubber flip flops just to be able to turn the water off. It was the only shower I took, it is 220 volts here and it kind of hurt. I did tell the manager.

Is a bit run down. Maintenance is clearly not a priority and the design was such that problem were to be expected. Water in the shower doesn't drain. Hotel is a bit noisy. Staff is OK, but a smile here and there would be nice. Internet OK. No secure parking, but it's on the corner of 2 quiet streets. The Tiwanuka ruins are about 200 m, walking from the hotel.

Decent hotel in walking distance to the sights. There was WiFi and warm water for the shower. Hotel has no heat and it gets cold there but they have heavy blankets and offer you more. Just bring warm clothes anyway.

Restaurant closed for dinner and very hard to get food in the town. Exposed wires in room and bathroom. Internet not good in room. However,if you want to stay in Tiwanaku, there are not very many choices. It was ok.
