I stayed at Courtyard by Marriott Calgary from April 3 to April 5, and I am honestly very sad and disappointed with my experience.
From the moment we arrived, the room lacked basic amenities that are normally expected from a hotel of this standard. There were no slippers, no shower cap, no toothpaste, and not even a toothbrush provided. These are simple items that make a big difference in comfort, especially when traveling. On top of that, the quality of the shampoo and body wash was very poor.
Housekeeping was also below expectations. There was no room service available, and during our two-night stay, the bedding and towels were not changed at all, which made the stay feel neglected and uncomfortable.
We also purchased breakfast (which was not included in the room), and unfortunately, it was one of the most disappointing parts of our stay. The menu mentioned freshly squeezed orange juice, but what we received was clearly bottled. The coffee was cold and did not taste freshly made. When we asked for coffee, it took about 20 minutes to arrive, and when we requested a refill, the staff didn’t pay attention at all.
Our full breakfast order was incomplete—they forgot to include basic items like jam and butter. When we asked for hot sauce, they brought us an empty bottle, which was honestly shocking. Even more surprising, instead of placing it on the table, they asked us to take it from their hands while they were carrying other items.
What made the situation even worse was the staff’s attitude. After we raised our concerns, no one apologized. Instead, we noticed two restaurant staff members laughing together, which felt very disrespectful and unprofessional, especially when we were already unhappy with the service.
Overall, this experience left me feeling very sad. I expected much better service and attention to detail from a hotel like this. Unfortunately, it did not meet even basic expectations, and I hope management takes these issues seriously and improves both their service and hospitality.
