We stayed at the Royal Norfolk Hotel in Sandgate for 2 days and had a lovely experience. The room was cosy and well-equipped with all the necessary amenities. The hotel staff were very helpful and welcoming. The location is excellent — there's a bus stop right opposite the hotel, and the beachfront is just a 2-minute walk away. The hotel also has a bar and restaurant. We had lunch there on the first day, and the food was delicious and well-prepared. They offer breakfast, dinner, and a Sunday carvery as well, which we didn’t get a chance to try, but I’m sure they’d be just as good. Overall, a great stay — would definitely recommend!

Sunday 27th April 4 of us visited to have the Sunday roast. We had pre-booked as it can get busy. It is done in a carvery style, you queue up and have a choice of up to 3 roast meats which are served up for you and then you help yourself to potatoes, vegetables, gravy etc. We all enjoyed our meals very much, everything was delicious! Staff were friendly and attentive. I'd say it was one of the nicest roast dinners I've eaten out in a very long time. Next time I go I'll have to try and leave room for pudding as those looked really good too!

Proper pub with good real ale, 9 lagers, and cider on tap. There is a large range of spirits and refrigerated bottles. The decor is tasteful and the furniture is comfortable. The toilets are pleasant and clean. 2 wood stoves and cheer in winter, the one in the pool area being lit most often. Music is normally playing. The snug room is good for conversation. Quiz nights are very popular, and booking is required. A comfortable outside seaing area is found at the back of the pub. The lunch menu has a good selection of lite bites under £10 and 8 main meals no more than £15.50 (May 2025) The evening menu has 11 mains £15.50 or less. The exception is 8oz rib eye at £18.95. Starters and deserts are very reasonably priced, too.

The veggies were lovely. Meat was too red for me. Waited ages for drinks. Biggest problem was I got very upset as there was a large parrot in a cage looking very sad for himself. I was told he was allowed out of the cage occasionally but it looked like he couldn’t even spread his wings properly. If the owners don’t want him or don’t want to upset their customers why don’t they give him to a wild life centre where he could fly around with others. I won’t go again. It was too sad to watch him just sit there.
