I was originally dismayed after a non refundable booking then digesting all the negative reviews. My teenage daughter and I stayed for a night this past week. The room was $150 LESS than any other available option! We in fact had 2 clean double beds, a window that opened with a fresh breeze from the Alberni Inlet, a 3/4 size fridge and microwave for our backpacking supplies, morning coffee and a plentiful supply of clean towels and soaps and shampoo. The room also had a somewhat noisy air conditioner but a little bit of white noise was ok for my lite snoring and any neighbors arriving late. Easy parking and basically $150 extra to spend at Alberni brewing which has terrific food and beers. Yes it’s not the Fairmont but for a cheap stay on your way to Tofino or an early hike to Della Falls(US!) this was just fine!!

Works well enough for a cheap last minute overnighter. The premise is certainly run down and dated. Cleanliness was okay, though the bedding smelt heavy of detergent and there was an overall old smokers smell to the room. You get what you pay for.

Nothing. Advertisement in sight was nothing close to actual place . It was not even 1 star hotel. We could not stay there.

Price was reasonable for a room that’s clean, comfortable, well maintained, good amenities, at a central location between Tofino & Nanaimo. Staff were friendly & helpful. No complaints as you get what you paid for. In my case, this hotel was excellent for my basic non-luxury needs. Lots of free parking too!

This was my first time staying on the island and the hotel was horrible. rooms were dirty, sketchy area and definitely not worth the price. AC unit didn’t work, def don’t book this hotel.. the fact that it’s not refundable is a red flag in itself.

Avoid

Our room had a strong odour. There is garbage everywhere on the property. Old toilets, broken pallets, cardboard waste. But the bed was comfortable.

Staff was helpful when they were there, but the room smelled, and there was no heat

Yuk. First, the "kid" at the office couldn't have been less inclined toward hospitality - a hard to understand Asian with his hoody hood on the whole time mumbling so quietly so you had to keep asking "what?". Then the journey to the room on the 3rd floor was riddled with stained, torn hall carpet with faint odors of urine (or something similar), garage sale wall art and the sounds escaping the 3/4" gap under each room's hallway door. The room itself seemed standard until you've been there 1 minute and look around at the neighbor's yard full of garbage, the cracking, peeling caulking in the tub and the layer of dust missed by a 'cleaner'? Damnit, I guess I won't be leaving the window open tonight - no screen for this mosquito season. The shower head is at a great height... if your 5 feet tall. Hey, my flashlight has a UV setting - let's have a look around the room ... aaaaaaah!!!!

No cable, could use tv, what more can I say except staff was no help. Just slightly better than sleeping in the car. Avoid if you can!!!

We travelled with a softball team, Our room was the best of them all. Though the walls were bulging and the wall paper was coming off the walls and the view from the window was basically a junk yard, it seemed cleanish - we still wore our shoes as this place is OOOOOLD and original carpet I’m sure. We had a shower head and no mold in the bathroom. The other teammates were not so lucky, they had mold and no shower heads. One family had to spend 1.5 hours cleaning their own room because it was so bad. The person at the reception desk wore a hoody with the hood on every day and did not acknowledge us any time we came in. I would not recommend this place.

When we arrived, the problems started immediately. We tried to have a shower, but it didn't work. Then we turned on the TV, and that didn't work either. We figured we'd just watch something on our laptops instead, but the Wi-Fi wasn't working either. I genuinely felt sorry for the young man at the front desk. It seemed like he was left to deal with all the complaints on his own, while someone (possibly his dad) stayed out of sight. Unfortunately, he didn't know how to fix the shower, reset the internet, or offer any real solution. In the end, we had no choice but to drive the two hours home at midnight. It completely ruined our weekend, and because we had to leave, we missed the final day of the tournament we had already paid to participate in. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience.

Good

the damage deposit was unbelievably high, even more than the cost of staying one night. The hotel was clean There was no hair dryer in the bathroom, and there was no non-slip mat in the shower. building is quite old, especially the elevators.

The place was dirty, and not maintained at all carpets are ripped floors are a mess. Smelled bad. Nothing i would ever recommend.

For the price point, a clean, and above initial expectation hotel. Adjoining Restaurant had very good dinner menu. Walking distance to the boat launch.

The windows in our room didn't open. There was air conditioning, but it was noisy all night.
