Review of The Standard Singapore: A Promising New Gem
I was eagerly anticipating my stay at The Standard Singapore, having previously enjoyed visits to the Standard Bangkok and a brief stop at Standard Hua Hin. Upon arrival, I was pleasantly surprised to find that despite being in its soft opening phase, the hotel was in impeccable condition—truly impressive!
Located on Orchard Road, The Standard is conveniently situated, although it requires a bit of a walk to reach popular spots like Ion. The lobby, though petite, is charming and inviting. The café's design evokes an American diner with a modern twist, seamlessly blending Japanese and Nordic aesthetics with a touch of retro flair. The cozy ambiance, complemented by an indoor garden, creates a welcoming atmosphere.
I was fortunate to be upgraded to a corner room, and the staff graciously accommodated an early check-in for me. During the room orientation, the team ensured I knew where everything was, which I appreciated. A thoughtful touch was when the staff removed their shoes before entering the room, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness.
The bathroom reminded me fondly of my stay at Standard Hua Hin. It was decently sized with excellent finishes and came equipped with all the essential amenities, including a designer bathrobe available for purchase. However, I would suggest adding an extra hook for towels and a rubber stop behind the shower glass door to prevent it from knocking against the tiles. Additionally, I found the hot water settings a bit tricky—the middle setting was too hot for comfort, requiring me to adjust it to the cold side for a balanced temperature.
The bedroom itself was delightful. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and I loved the sofa nook, reminiscent of the one in Bangkok, which provided a perfect space for dining or as a workspace. To top it off, the welcome amenities of fresh apples and delicious cookies were a lovely touch.
food taste could be improved at Kaya.
