From the Haneda or Narita airports, hop on a shinkansen bullet train and head directly to the city of Nagano, home to the 1998 Winter Olympics. Famously known as ‘Japan’s Alps,’ Nagano features snow capped peaks, ski resorts, and beautiful temples.

Head north to Niigata, a modern coastal city that’s the capital of the Niigata prefecture. Known for sake and outdoor activities, the city is also the gateway to Sado Island, a lovely island famous for its gold mining history, idyllic beaches, and hiking and diving opportunities.

Discover all the amazing sights Japan has to offer with the JR EAST PASS (Nagano, Niigata Area) in your hand.

Explore coastal cities and mountainous getaways and visit all the famous spots in this gem of a region.

Alternatively, make your way to Kazuizawa, a famous resort town at the foot of an active volcano offering hot springs, golf courses, great cycling routes, skiing, and other outdoor recreation activities.

What you need to know:

JR EAST Lines, Tokyo Monorail, Izu Kyuko Line, Hokuetsu Express, and Echigo TOKImeki Railway (between Naoetsu and Arai)

Reserved seats in ordinary cars of the following express trains with through operations between JR EAST and Tobu Railway lines: Nikko, Kinugawa, and SPACIA Kinugawa trains

Ordinary trains (including rapid trains) on the Tobu Railway lines between Shimo-imaichi and Tōbu-nikkō / Kinugawa-onsen

Express trains between Kurihashi and Shimo-imaichi that has direct and through operation with Tobu Railway

JR buses in the area (excluding highway and some regular bus routes)

This JR Pass is not applicable for express trains that start or end at Tobu Railway

This JR Pass is only valid for the Tobu Railway when the departure and/or destination is a JR line station

You Should Also Know This

JR tickets operate under a registration system. Please ensure that you have provided sufficient information that’s required to make a purchase. Please also bear in mind that we will not be liable for any loss or delay due to insufficient information provided by travellers.

Luggage Allowance: A passenger may bring up to two pieces of luggage, not including carry-ons and smaller bags, each piece may not weigh more than 30kg, the total length, width and depth cannot exceed 250cm, and the longest length cannot exceed 200cm.

For any “MCO redeemable vouchers” that have not been exchanged into an “Official Pass” you can apply for a refund within 11 months from the purchase date with a 20% cancellation fee. Please ensure that you keep your vouchers safe as we cannot issue new passes or process refunds if passes are lost, stolen or partially used.

From April 1, please use your JR PASS at the automatic ticket gate.

User must present their passport and printed voucher at the designated location (within 3 months after the date of issue) for ticket redemption.

JR PASS is valid for 5 consecutive days from the first usage date.

Travellers are required to designate the first usage date when redeeming the ticket, the first usage date must be within 1 month after redemption, requests for date changes will not be granted once the redemption procedure is completed.

Please note that this ticket can't be redeemed at JR EAST ticket machines, only at the designated locations.
