I wanted a less corporate, less CBD experience of Sydney - and the Royal Randwick gave me that. The room was very comfortable, and the air conditioning worked to the point of refrigeration if need be. Great experience, and excellent value for money. If you want to visit the CBD, there was a tram line directly to the Cirular Quay.

The room was clean and large. Check in was smooth. The hotel clearly made an effort with soundproofing with double doors between the bar downstairs and the hotel rooms upstairs. Some noise still seeped through from the bar but it was muffled. The bigger noise issue is actually the hotel being situated right at the intersection of major roads and you could hear cars and trucks - this could be fixed by double glazing the windows, or wearing earplugs. The location is convenient to Randwick's main streets where there are lots of food options and shops. Transport is easy enough (bus or light rail).

In both stays, room was too small for the price I paid. The layout was also a bit problematic. In the second room, hot water did not work on the sink. I did not try the bar. If you are okay with small rooms and do not have a large suitcase, you may consider this hotel.
