Statesman Hotel

Nice room, great price and good sevice

Lovely well maintained older hotel/motel. Great staff, very clean with a bit of character. Despite being a hotel, very quiet and well located next to a small shopping centre with a decent supermarket and a small collection of other shops. No toaster or microwave, while the room (lower queen room) is compact, it is well suited to a 2 or 3 day stay. Helpful staff. Recommended as a good value stay close to Woden and the Canberra Hospital.

Perfect place for my one night in Canberra. The Statesman Hotel is integrated in a pub and the accommodation is on top of the ground floor car park with staircase access to the rooms... This was perfect for what I was after and the staff member in charge was fabulous, helping out with storing luggage as I went to my meetings... The adjacent small shopping area has a great supermarket...

Convenient to where I was working, comfortable bed, great shower pressure and onsite bistro, with good food. All good.

Still trying to sort out being charged a 1 night deposit by Expedia as well as 7 nights accommodation at the hotel for a 1 week stay. I am expecting a refund sooner rather than later.

Seamless checkin. Excellent room for a modest charge (though I could've used a plate along with the two cups). In house bar and restaurant most convenient.

Overnight noise from some machine

Rooms warm, beds comfy, Noise from air conditioners above (known issue being looked at) meant I moved rooms three times. Staff were good but it was frustrating for this to happen. Still noisy on the 3rd room, didnt bother to ask again. Suggest staying at back of hotel on lower level away from the noise of pub at the front Also to note - no lifts so if on top floor its four flights up. Location to shops, pub (dinner) and areas around Canberra made this a great location.

Location, cost

We had a family trip to Canberra for 3 nights and really enjoyed our stay at the Statesman. The Statesman is a hotel/motel in the traditional Australian 1960's-80's style and has had a real glow up to bring it up to modern specs. We had interconnecting rooms to accommodate 2 adults and two kids. The rooms were very clean, had good amenities and the beds were very comfy. We enjoyed dinner in the Policy Restaurant in the Hotel one evening and it was great. Very good pub food and a lovely atmosphere with local families and groups also enjoying the cosy, friendly ambiance. We also ate one night at Two Blind Mice, which was a great casual restaurant a one minute walk from the Statesman. Evoke Bakery two doors down, was also fantastic for croissants and coffee and pies and breads, a really good bakery! Coles is also in that same set of shops, so the Statesman is really well served by local shops. Close to all the cultural institutions in Canberra City as well as the Zoo and Arboretum. The Statesman is a different style of accommodation, to say, a Meriton, etc. But for a very economical and pleasant stay, I would absolutely recommend the Statesman.
