City Hotel Shanghai

Great hotel in great location, i haved here before many times but the staff friendliness is amazing. Feeling welcome and helpful. Especially Reception and the Waiting Staff at Breakfast. Breakfast a good selection of foods and cheap. Rooms are clean, tidy and comfortable. Location is the best part of this place

The stay was alright but I would not recommend it for international users due to the lack of ability to speak in English, at reception, via call and irresponsive via Hotels.com chat.

So I booked for a classic room (lowest) but got upgraded to executed because the gym was underconstruction. The upgraded room was on 22nd floor and it was updated and clean, not huge but I was by myself and king size bed was more than enough. The staff are all super friendly and helpful, and they are all super eager to help whenever I have some questions. My breakfast experience however could have been improved as both of my day there consisted of some loud arguments either between staff and staff or staff and customers while we were eating. Now I supposed I went during a low season so it might seem casual but I would like my breakfast to have less commotion and so was another guest there

For one night for sorting some family issues in Shanghai, it was okay. I did not like the distance from the nearest metro stop though.

Room smelled like smoke. Had to pay extra to use the swimming pool that’s advertised as part of the hotel which I think is outrageous to be frank. Bed was rock hard. Just not a nice hotel at all compared to others in Shanghai for the same price.

I originally booked this Hotel through Expedia as it ticked most of the boxes; free breakfast with room rate, swimming pool, fitness centre, and for the affordable room rate, not far from Metro stations: South Shaanxi Road (10 minutes) Huaihai Middle Road (7 mins) and Nanjing West Road (12 minutes) Pros: Nice location in a nice district of Shanghai with fashion shops, cafes, restaurants and craft beer bars plentiful. At least 3 metro stations on different lines in walking distance. Strong, Hot shower. Cons: Very disappointing buffet breakfast, not many choices, terrible coffee. If you want a real freshly ground espresso it's an extra 40 RMB! The beds are your typical Chinese rock-hard standard and do not cater for the feeble Western spine. Especially if you have chiropractic problems and not a side-sleeper. Something that the Hotel do not advertise is that if you want to use the pool and fitness center, they are not included in the standard room rate! it's actually 100 RMB extra to use the pool and fitness centre per use! They encourage you to upgrade to a deluxe room for 100 RMB extra per day for unlimited use if the pool and fitness center. Swimming caps in the pool are also mandatory! if you haven't brought your own, they will happily supply you one for an extra 100 RMB! Furnishing, cupboards, shelving and carpet in room is all dated and in dire need of renovation. I could go on, but when you only have a 1500 character limit!?

The hygiene condition and cleaning is not thorough. Used tissues were found under the quilt on the bed at return to room at night.

I like everything else except inside the furniture and the base room area because the furniture are poor and the base tub water can’t go through it at same time.

Good location and walkable distance to metro station. Price is reasonable as compared to similar hotels in city centre.

I used to stay in this hotel everytime I come to Shanghai for business reason. Price is reasonable though the hotel is located in the city centre. Metro is within walkable distance.

I like the location of the property.It is very convenient for me visit my friends and family.

The hotel is nice, clean, rooms are good size, internet maybe a bit slow but works. Staff are great, concierge section go out of their way to help, room sevice takes 30 mins good prices, great staff, breakfast staff also great always smiling and welcoming serving coffee, tea, cold cuts and bacon eggs etc and local dishes too. I would stay again no problem
