The room key I had opened the door to another room! I stayed in room 212, and after a very long day I accidentally went to room 202 and opened up the door and entered the wrong room! After a moment or two of seeing the room wasn't presented correctly, the actual guest of room 202 opened the door and walked into the room whilst I was standing there. It was just a good job I wasn't in the shower, on the loo or getting dressed. As you can imagine, the other guest was quite shocked, as was I. I showed him how my key fit his door and I hadn't broken in. It appears that the room key is actually a master room key, so can fit any door and the same key lock for outside/late night access. No one came to the room to find out if I was OK, or needed anything. I'd not stay there again. It's a shame, as back in the day this must have been quite a lovely hotel, but now has been left in need of modernisation. Yes, the cost per room was quite competitive, but that isn't the point. Safety of guests should always be paramount of importance.

On arrival to Room No 1, everything seemed fine, however there was a strong smell of bleach and we noticed the window was open. Didn’t take a lot of notice, however when we returned later that evening there was a putrid smell, can only describe as smell feet or drains. The smell never left the room, in fact it got worse. We were only there for one night, any longer and I definitely would have left. The hotel itself is nice and that typical old decor we don’t see enough of & a lovely big dining area no longer used. But in its hey day would have been the place to stay x

Room was ok- I’ve stayed in this hotel many times in about 8 years very occasionally however this time was a horrid experience I stayed for my birthday visiting friends in the area and I came back home and even smelled it myself that someone was smoking cannabis in the hotel Immediately I was blamed being young and how strong it was and close to my room! And got kicked out in the morning saying the manager has requested I left but refused to speak to me about it or give a reason why! Im relatively local myself! And I will be having words with the booking agents over this! Horrid staff

The room was newly refurbished, good standard, bright, modern, all the basics, plenty of power points with built in usb ports. The staff were helpful, friendly and tried hard. They were let down by outside contractor not fitting a new boiler properly so it took time before the hot water was fixed. Letsface it , Yarmouth has a lot of old crumbly hotels that need a lot of work. While overall the Hotel looks dated they are doing up the rooms. It is a bit hit and miss but you're not paying much so dont expect the Ritz if your paying less tan 40 quid for a double, then theres probably issues. I only paid 12 quid with loyalty offers and 32 forthe second night . No kettle and heating not on , were remidied quickly . There was a fridge and microwave in room , so you get a lot for your money.

⭐☆☆☆☆ 1 out of 5 stars No hot water and shockingly poor attitude from staff I stayed at the St George Hotel in Great Yarmouth two days ago, and I’ve rarely experienced customer service this poor. When I got to my room, there was no hot water. I ran the tap for 15 minutes — still stone cold. I went to reception to ask about it, and the response I got was unbelievable. The staff member said, “If you have no hot water, nobody has hot water.” When I asked what I was supposed to do for a shower, he replied, “Same as everybody else.” No apology, no effort to help, no basic courtesy. Guests shouldn’t have to accept cold showers and rude dismissals as part of their stay. It’s completely unacceptable, and I’d strongly advise anyone considering this hotel to look elsewhere.
