Stayed as a group of 8 for a hen party. The room was ready on arrival at 1pm. It was clean and spacious and the beds were really comfy. The only downside was there was only 1 toilet between 8 of us and there wasn’t enough mirrors in the room

£400 for One Night (Room Only) – Not Suitable for Families!! We paid almost £400 for one night for a family room (room only, no food included) and it was one of the worst hotel stays we’ve had. The hotel feels very run down. Although the room was large, it was extremely dated and not cleaned to a high standard. For the price being charged, the condition was very disappointing. Our floor was mostly occupied by hen party groups and was extremely noisy. To make matters worse, our room was directly underneath an events room where very loud music continued well past midnight. Even after the music stopped, furniture was being dragged around above us. As a result, both myself and my children struggled to get any sleep. When we did eventually fall asleep we were woken again by shouting and screaming in the corridors from other guests. By morning we couldn’t wait to leave. The corridors also had leftover takeaway containers and kebabs scattered along them, which summed up the state of the place. When I raised these issues at checkout, the manager, Chris, showed little interest and said it was my fault for not complaining during the night. I was also told the hotel mainly caters for stag and hen parties, which makes charging nearly £400 for a family room feel very misleading. This hotel is massively overpriced and not suitable for families. We were not the only guests complaining in the morning. We wish we had booked a Premier Inn or Travelodge instead.

I booked this hotel specifically as part of my husbands Christmas gift as he is an avid Liverpool FC fan. Unfortunately wi was not informed prior to my stay that the Shankley hotel had changed hands and all the memorabilia removed by Christopher Shankley in early January 2026. My husband and i were both bitterly disappointed and feel that we should of been informed of tgis prior to our stay. The shankley hotels appeal and unique selling point is the fact that it is a shrine to Bill shankley but there was no memorabilia to look at and enjoy. We wasn't even informed of this at the reception upon arrival. I also found the reception staff member very rude and blunt in his approach to our check in. He didnt advise where the var or restaurant was, the opening tines, what time breakfast and dinner is served etc. When we got into our room it was freezing cold there was no instruction on how to operate the heating system in the room and i had to knock on the door of the neighbouring guest to ask them. The blue tooth speaker system in the room which is operated from a pad on the wall was broken and where buttons should of been there was just a big hole there. The bathroom was in a poor state cracked and broken tiles grime and dirt present in the tile grouting and the wooden panelling around the bath was rotten from getting wet and was also not fitted correctly with big gaps and so many cigarette burns all over it itThe burns fromm rabilia had been removed from the premises by

The hotel staff are fantastic and it’s a great location. The reason for my low score is that we hardly had any sleep on both nights we stayed. We were in room 113 on the first floor which is right on a main road and it has a constant flow of traffic and you can hear everything as if you were right outside on the pavement. We did tolerate this as It is an old building and it is what it is but it really was tough going. After the first night I asked for earplugs but they didn’t have any and the receptionist said there were no other rooms to move us too (I didn’t ask for a room swap but I was glad that this was considered). On checking out after the second night we were absolutely shattered. When asked if we enjoyed our stay I again pointed out politely the noise and because of this we wouldn’t come back or be able to recommend the hotel. The receptionist just accepted this and said ‘okay’. Her response told me that this must be a regular complaint.
