What a unique hotel. We loved our stay at the Hoxton Lloyd. A little outside of the main areas of central Amsterdam, but close to a train that takes you there in 15-20 mins. We loved the history of it, and all the funky details and decor inside. We had a beautiful view of a canal, and enjoyed the bar/restaurant downstairs. The bunkbeds were perfect for the kids, and we used the supermarket and coffee shop across the street a couple of times. They also have complimentary bikes available, and decent restaurant options within walking distance. Also the photo booth in the lobby was a hit. Highly recommend if you don't mind staying outside of the Amsterdam core.

We stayed over at the Lloyd Hoxton for a hen do/bachelorette party in Amsterdam. We arrived at the hotel, just a short walk from the tram stop which was super useful. Sadly there was no signage from that side, so we entered the hotel through the restaurant. Check in wasn't smooth, struggled to find our reservation, stating that we only had 2 rooms instead of 3. When finally the reservation was found, only 2 rooms were ready and we had to wait for the other one. Also, we wanted to split the full amount between the 5 people who were travelling together, but the person in reception seemed to be fairly new and didn't know how to do this, also no one who was there with her in reception offered her any help to solve this matter. We ended up having leave a pending amount for the whole bill on a credit card and have to wait to pay during checkout. Out of the 2 rooms that were ready, one was as advertised (room 503). Sadly the other one didn't have aircon, which was awful during the heatwave, there was no water or milk in the fridge as the other one (room 512). The remaining room that was not ready yet, when it was available to go in, it was also missing water, milk as well as toilet paper. Due to the wait during check in, we received vouchers for a free drink at the bar which was nice. Sadly, when we tried to order a bottle of wine to share after our drinks were done, which never turned up even asking the waiters 4 times. Expensive hotel for it to be this poorly run.

At this price, there should be robes and slippers in each room. Some of the room furnishings could also be improved: bathroom trash can, washcloths, toiletries filled to top vs. needing to pound the bottle to get anything out. In general, there could be more amenities presented at check-in as well such as bikes, restaurant recommendations outside of Brennan. The highlights here are the staff, both at reception and the restaurant, walking distance to all local transit and easy access to Amsterdam city center, Centraal Station and a quieter, more laidback feel than being in the hub of things. Not sure if Hoxton hotels offer a pillow menu or not, but if that’s something that is available it might be nice to mention or highlight during check-in. The pillows are all feather and offer zero support.

The Lloyd Hoxton was great—beautiful design, helpful staff, and close to a tram that could take you to central station. For families, they even had a play area with mud kitchen! The breakfast buffet was delicious and good value for the cost. My room was comfortable and the bathroom was clean and very nice. I do wish they offered a bathrobe and slippers for guests. The only real downsides to me were that the WIFI in my room wasn't as strong as I'd hope. For example, FaceTime calls were spotty. As a first-time visitor, I also found it a bit of a trek to get to some of the tourist attractions and wish I stayed more central (the other Hoxton was all booked up). I'd recommend staying at this location if it's not your first time in Amsterdam and you want to be in a less touristy area. Still, lovely hotel, helpful staff, and good value overall.

I don't think I've ever written this negative of a review before. This hotel is a quirky (one might say weird) place with a retro vibe. The front desk clerk said it was a renovated reform school for boys. Each room has a different decor, is a different size, but the two we saw were just not what you expect for a hotel. My room was so small I couldn't put my suitcase on the floor. The closet was a metal pole with a drawer beneath it, but the nightstand was up against the drawer so I couldn't use it. My friend's room must have been the communal shower. Her bedroom walls were covered in old bathroom tiles and there were three doors, one to the sink, one to the shower, one to the toilet, each the size of a small closet. When we said we wouldn't stay, the desk clerk offered us "other rooms" but we found the place too depressing. Maybe others would find it fun. There were a number of families playing games in the lobby livingroom. We had paid up front for two rooms for almost a week. No refund or offer to compensate us in any way except to offer us a different room, which was likely to be just as weird (although I suppose it could've been bigger). I thought the photos on the website were completely misleading.

Hoxton Lloyd was o.k. travelling with our 2 kids we had a studio room, which was built into the attic of the building. The studio was spacious, but dark, since it only had 2 small windows in the roof and lights had to be switched on at any time of the day. The room was generally too warm, particularly during the night, since opening the windows was not an option due to the noise from neighbouring venues and the air condition at the entrance of the room did not impact 2/3rds of the studio. The studio fits 4 people with ease, but the bath room is in comparison tiny (1 sink, a shower and a toilet in a small room). A When it comes to cleanliness there was also room for improvement as various parts of the studio were dusty. The breakfast was ok, but more representative of a 3 Star hotel than the price level of the Hoxton group of hotels. I am not sure about the coffee consumption of other guests, but the hotel handed out vouchers for "barrista" coffee, which limited the number of coffee, which was not a filter coffee to 1 per person. This seemed weird at the price point of Hoxton.

The hotel is walking distance from the tram which makes it convenient for getting to all the landmarks in Amsterdam. If you are traveling with a person who needs more assistance just be aware that the building does not have rails or ramps at the front entrance.
