We stayed for 2 nights - 1st and 2nd of August in room 30.......it was a last minute getaway and I did a brief review of the hotel, location facilities etc before paying. What a fantastic place, amazing character ....... it's Wales oldest pub.... 500+ years but it has all of the modern amenities...... the bathroom in room 30 looks like it was installed yesterday...... very modern and in perfect working order. The room itself has real character, lots of space well laid out. The four poster bed is massive and so so comfortable, excellent quality bedding and pillow and for an old four poster bed very sturdy....... We had breakfast and dinner during our stay both were excellent. The Pub is in the center so easy access to everything. Parking is extra and limited and tight to access especially as you are requested to park facing forward, there are a number of car parks in the area and if arriving via motorbike I think if you ask you can park them in the rear area by the rooms. Overall I highly recommend this place and we will be returning.

This was our first visit to The Black Boy Inn and we absolutely loved it! We chose the 4 poster room, which was stunning, the bed was super comfy, the bed was huge and bedding soft and fresh. The bathroom was clean and fresh with lovely soft towels. The staff were so polite and helpful, the restaurant served lovely food, great portion sizes, arrived promptly and was very reasonably priced. Breakfast was cooked fresh to order and the range of cereal and fruits was brilliant. Lots of little bars and restaurants locally, supermarket was a walkable distance for anything needed. I wouldn’t stay any where else if we ever return to this part of Wales. Absolutely brilliant all round.

In the first room 87 I think we had something underneath the carpet beside the bed. I did report it. I didn’t like having to take my bags through the streets to the room but could’ve easily been done by the people there. I didn’t realise that you had to go 100 yards down the road to go to the room. I would not have stayed that was three flights stairs up no lift second room number 77 same thing have to takeoff stuff out. Take it back to the Hotel and start all over again. Yes, we did have two separate bookings but the new way of a bag was going they could’ve took the bag to the room instead of dragging it through the streets, it’s supposed to be a four star Hotel

The hotel infrastructure and staff were excellent. Clearly much thought was given to the history of the ancient establishment and the artwork in the various public areas was impressive. The only let-down was the catering. The food was adequate but hardly memorable and the pre-paid breakfast - £15 - wasn’t really up to much. The promise of a tasty Egg Royale didn’t deliver. However, I would stay there again and the hotel deserves its good reputation; hopefully we were just unlucky with the catering during our visit. All credit to the staff though.

I booked this room for one reason: after walking up Snowdon all day, I just wanted a good night’s sleep. Instead, I got one of the worst nights I’ve had in a hotel. I was put in a building away from the main hotel, directly opposite a bar with people drinking outside late into the evening. The bedroom window didn’t even shut properly, so every bit of noise came straight into the room. Then from around 4am the seagulls were relentless. Sleep was pretty much impossible. To top it off, the TV didn’t work because there was no signal. Yes, the room itself was lovely, clean and modern, but for £150 a night that’s nowhere near enough. A hotel’s first job is to provide a decent night’s sleep, and on that front this place failed completely. I left feeling massively disappointed and wouldn’t stay again.

I booked thinking I would be staying in the Black Boy inn with all its old world charm, but no I was told to go to the top of the road turn right and my room will be in a blue building on the left, I told the receptionist that I was expecting a room in the Black Boy Inn not a random remotely run ie no staff hotel round the corner, she replied we have several properties in the area but the Inn is full. I had no choice but to but to take the room which was very nice and modern but not an ancient Welsh sea side inn which is what my friend from Slovakia was hoping to be staying in. To be fair the receptionist did say that it is mentioned in the online add which it is but not prominently, so you may be placed elsewhere in the area, sorry but if I buy a classic Jaguar I don’t expect to be given a modern Mini, read the small print and check with the hotel I’ve learned my lesson,

We were very disappointed in this stay, particularly given the high ratings on Hotels.com. After checking in, we were directed to a different building down the street. We dragged our suitcases over a cobblestone street with bird and dog poop on the sidewalks. The room was on the ground floor facing the the street. We listened to the loud chatter of pedestrians until after midnight - a distance of 4 feet from our bed. The room furnishings and decor are dated and not comfortable - rock hard pillows, a TV 8 feet off the ground. Staff was not very helpful. Of the 11 places we stayed at during our UK visit, this was by far the less enjoyable.

we ate there the night before we left. We ordered dessert online. The server made us show her our receipt for the dessert before bringing it to our table. When she finally brought our dessert she was very sour and didn’t even apologize. Seemed very rude.

Wonderful location inside the old medieval wall! Steps from the Carnarvon Castle! Nice bar(s) and seating areas inside and out. On the other hand why would they put a senior on the third floor with no elevator?!! Shower drain was clogged but maintenance did fix that after I brought it to their attention. The biggest issue was the unseasonable heat. No A/C in these old hotels and the top floor was unbearable hot. All I had was a small 10 inch fan which was all but useless. Come on guys! Put some bigger fans on those top floor rooms! I’d stay there again, only on the condition of a ground floor room.

Hotel and staff were great. Very warm welcome at check-in, room was clean but quite warm and stuffy. Sadly the food in the restaurant whilst only pub food was quite expensive and extremely poor quality. We would definitely stay at the hotel again but would eat elsewhere.

We had a nice spacious room, if on the top floor of the nearby Ty Dre Town House. It was very quiet and we slept well in the very big and comfortable bed. The reception staff were very polite and helpful. We only stopped two nights but ate, both nights, in the Black Boy. It had a good range of meals of locally sourced ingredients. Between us, we tried four, all delicious, possibly more generous helpings than we needed! I also found a very nice local real ale pint ~ so good, I managed 3 each night!
