Awful! Please don’t book. The hotel is vastly different than advertised. The rooms look completely different, very poor quality, mould, dirty, tv didn’t work, no ac. It’s completely different to the pictures. When I complained to the manager he simply said “the pictures are a guide and not exact” although I have taken pictures and a comparison of the room vs the advertisement and it’s a massive different in calibre of room. Had the room been advertised truely I wouldn’t have booked it. Very rude staff and overall poor.

Having paid £230 per night (no breakfast), I was expecting a reasonably high-end experience. Nothing could be further from the truth. Firstly all the roads within 1KM of the hotel were closed for a music event. I drove around for about an hour trying to get close to the hotel, but had to park some distance away at a cost of £20 for a couple of hours and have to be back at 8am to pay more. When I arrived at the hotel I expressed my dissatisfaction that the hotel did not communicate this in advance. I was told by a rather surly receptionist that all the closures were on the Cardiff council website. Next time I travel to a hotel, I will be sure to check out the local council website in case there are road closures! Just a simple email from the hotel advising of road closures would have been all was needed. Once in the room, the temperature was unbearable. There was no air conditioning - just a fan. The temperature was 30 degrees. This meant a sleepless night. The room was very much past its prime - old fittings and furniture - a shower that was over a bath with a shower curtain and a shower head that fell off the wall. Coffee was sachets etc. At £230 a night surely a basic coffee machine... The paint work was crumbling and the flooring cheap laminate. A Premiere Inn would have been a much better choice and would have been far better value. The hotel management really need to have an overhaul of the offering. On checking out, not even a "How was your stay...."

It was exceptionally hot weather when we stayed. Windows cannot be opened. We were given a fan. It was unbearable, to the extent I would say, unsafe to stay overnight in the heat. Anyone with a room on that side of the hotel should have been offered a room on the other side that may therefore have been less dangerous or simply paid for us to transfer to a hotel with air con. The place wasn’t expensive, I know you get what you pay for, but these were exceptional circumstances. One lady took her pillow to the foyer hoping it would be easier to sleep there. Somewhat farcical. They should’ve have offered a full refund and helped find us somewhere else.

The Angel has a convenient location for exploring Cardiff. It feels like stepping into the opulence of yesteryear. The room itself was well appointed, albeit small. I booked a single room, and was surprised to have a double bed. The bed was very comfortable. The staff was prepared for the heat wave with a fan already placed in the room upon my arrival.

Beautiful Hotel lovely and clean and the room was absolutely spotless. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

The angel hotel is an outstanding historical building with beautiful views and remains true to its history. The staff were helpful and friendly and always went the extra mile. The room was clean, the view of the castle was gorgeous, and the bed was comfy. One thing to note to is that due to the hot weather a fan was provided which shows how they care about their guests. Breakfast was hot and tasted delicious. We will definitely stay here again and if you enjoy historical buildings with lots of character it’s a must stay.

A grand old hotel allowed to degenerate into a hotel that barely merits a single star. The bed was not bad but everything else was appalling - two 4 person lifts (2 person if you have luggage) and one of the those lifts was out of use. Just two lights in our room - one bedside and one table light gave not enough illumination to read the fire and evacuation notice. Everywhere the walls were damaged and just painted over, great slabs of painted lining paper hanging off the bedroom wall, disgusting old windows, no adjustable aircon, no charging points and a loo cistern which took about ten minutes to refill. The 'cocktail bar' had nice staff but was not big enough to seat everyone - yet the bar opened into the (closed & unlit) restaurant and if you wanted to sit or have a table your only option was to sit in the dark restaurant. The menu was pathetic. Now I know we were there for the Take That concert and inevitably room prices were hiked everywhere - but the normal room price of around £127 had been hiked to over £325 and for that we were greeted with a hotel which could not hold a candle to a TravelLodge. I suggest you give this hotel a wide berth. It was one of the worst hotels I have ever encountered.

I have stayed at the Angel previously but not for three or four years. The communal building is in need of lots of renovation. The chambermaids were efficient and friendly But the reception staff varied from friendly to disinterested. At breakfast there were not enough staff to replenish items. On one morning there were no plain tea bags and when I asked staff they could only locate de cafinated tea. We booked the restaurant for 8pm and when we arrived were told they close at 8pm. The greeter asked the chef and he agreed to cook for us. I grew up in Cardiff and really enjoyed my stay but I feel your hotel has some way to go to get even four stars.
