I have stayed at the Mercure several times this year and find it absolutely lovely..Good clean rooms, Stella Breakfast and very efficient and good natured staff. Spa is rather busy with swimming lessons in the day but peaceful after 7.30pm I would rate the hotel 5 star except that the bar food is poor. Overpriced, meagre standard and quality.. so bring your own sandwiches but certainly sign up for breakfast

The room, whilst adequate for sleeping in, was tired and dated, decor was old and run down. We were there for 2 days and paid an extra for an upgrade to the privilege room, which meant bath robes, slippers, coffee machine with 4 pods, a tin of fanta and pepsi and 2x 2 finger kit kats 2 bottles of water. Drinks used up on first day along with kit kats but didnt get replaced for second day, room wasn't even serviced on the Sunday so I was miffed at paying for upgrade for two days as it was a waste of money. Staff were friendly and attentive although noticably absent when I was trying to check out on Monday morning. There is an over reliance on powerful air freshners the sort used in old peoples homes to mask bad smells, these repugnant air freshners catch your breath and could be an issue if you have a breathing illness. Corrugated paneling lining the corridor walls, bouncing, creeky first floors and corridors that thunder as you walk to your room are an issue when trying to get to sleep. But as this was not an expensive hotel, and it has a swimming pool, sauna and steam room you take the rough with the smooth and accept the poor decor and noisy floors as overall it does what it says on the tin. We had an enjoyable break at this hotel, it didn't break the bank and was conveniently located.

There was awful banging noise outside our room that went on for hours, late into the night. It woke us up again in the morning. We reported it to reception who said they would look into it but didnt seem to care. We investigated ourselves and discoveded a set of steps behind the wall that our bed was on and the noise was people banging cases and bags up and down the steps. It wasnt a great experience or relaxed stay that we expected. Very disappointed as we rarely get a chance to grab time away and it was supposed to be special.

Shocking hotel. We paid £48 for 2 course each. My fish was one of those supermarket battered fillets, really bad. Worse than that was the room. Worst night sleep we have ever had, the bed was very uncomfortable the pillows were lumpy and bedding was as pld as me! In truth, it was a cheap last minute stay and if we had not beed travelli g all day we would have walked at 3am to find another hotel

This hotel is a little tired. There has been a makeover of sorts to the room. However there was a funky smell through the corridor and room. The pool was nice to have but again showing its age. The hotel was quiet so breakfast suffered from being kept warm under lamps. The Staff were all helpful and friendly. Hence the 3 stars.

Overall the room was ok, the bed was very firm for our taste. The duvet had seen better days though the linen was clean and white.

Bed, rock hard, very uncomfortable. TV thinks it’s yesterday, when the guide comes up it’s showing what was on the day before!
