Room 140 was a disgrace. £225 we paid, every piece of furniture was damaged/battered (except the chairs) The aircon did not work, but 2 fans were in the room.. not the same. The curtains did not fully cover the windows so sunlight was let in early. The TV was very unresponsive and kept losing wifi connection. The wifi in general was not good. However the bathroom was the worst. Its clear it needs completely overhauling. The tiles near the shower have sunk, leaving a sharp edge. Its clear the floorboards under the shower/tile are rotten/damaged as there was no support under part of the shower. The lino flooring moved and flexed when stood on.. very unsettling. Finally, black mould, clearly not cleaned well. Disgrace for the price really. Generally a nice building with good potential, but clearly needs some investment.

My wife and I recently stayed at The Coal Exchange in Cardiff, we stayed in room 23 and we had a truly wonderful experience. As my wife is disabled, we greatly appreciated the care, attention, and kindness shown to us throughout our stay. A special mention must go to Luke, who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. His friendliness, professionalism, and genuine enthusiasm made our visit even more memorable. We were fascinated by the rich history of the building, and Luke took the time to tell us about the Coal Exchange’s past, the surrounding area, and the incredible architecture both inside and outside the building. Learning about the magnificent main hall where trading once took place was particularly interesting and gave us a real appreciation for this unique and historic venue. The Coal Exchange is an amazing and beautiful place, full of character and heritage. Combined with the outstanding service we received, it made for a stay that we will remember for a long time. Without a doubt, we will be returning in the future, and we will certainly be recommending The Coal Exchange to our friends and family. Read some bad recent reviews on google and was worried but me and my small daughter had a lovely time. I will say after staying here that these reviews are very glass half empty, if youre on top of wardrobes running your finger along for dust like four in a bed and taking close up pictures of carpets you may not enjoy and tbh, are being a little ridiculous. I paid £72 for a double room breakfast included. The breakfast for us both was worth £20 at least, the building is old with lots of high ceilings and rooms are very grand. I dont know what you expect, there will be a little dust! The building is beautiful, quirky and decorated smart. They've done an excellent job restoring while keeping character, my daughter loved the building and its quirks. I would check if there is an event on before booking with a child, we found ourselves with a dance troop practicing a routine outside our room in the evening ha, but everyone was nice about the situation and the night service gent went above and beyond changing room for us immediately and we were very happy. Daughter (and my injured back) loved the jacuzzi or 'jet bath' as we called it all night. Breakfast was brilliant, like an old school full English/continental buffet setup which we were happy to see as tbh you dont really see them anymore. All in all lovely place and staff were fantastic, I feel we underpaid which is always a nice feeling. We'll be back.

What an awful hotel, the ground floor room we stayed in was a good size and that is the only good thing about it. The room and en-suite were filthy and the furniture had definitely seen better days. The wallpaper was coming off the walls, the windows didn’t open properly and black mould in the en-suite. There was dirty laundry lying around in the corridors and the place just looked tired and dirty. When I complained they just told me to email in as there was no one there who could deal with the complaint. I emailed them but have not received any response. Extremely expensive and certainly not worth it.

Hotel itself looks beautiful, very old, a little spooky! Our room was clean but not the best. The wallpaper was coming off the walls, the windows only open a tiny bit and room was hot but could not get the air con to work. It’s in a great place so you can have a walk around the bay, and we decided to come back early to take advantage of the hot tub bath. We followed all the instructions on the wall, it wouldn’t work, we got dressed and went to reception, the receptionist said there is a switch on the outside of the bathroom, so we went back to the room and searched everywhere, and couldn’t find the switch, so my partner returned back to reception where they said it is by your bed! So we looked all around the bed only to find the switch on the wall BEHIND the bedside table, literally had to force the table out to be able to get to the switch! Water was warm not hot! It’s quite expensive for a basic hotel, we won’t stay again unfortunately! The only bonus was the bed was comfy!
