I've known Patra Hotel for its long-standing reputation, starting as Patra Jasa Semarang, which has now become Patra Hotel & Convention. After four days and three nights of moving between hotels, yesterday I decided to choose Patra as my final stop, on days four and five, during my visit to catch up with old friends and attend to business in Yogyakarta, as well as to experience a different atmosphere each day.
However, of the four hotels I visited, I was truly disappointed with what I found at Patra Malioboro Hotel. I'll summarize my complaints in the pros and cons of my experience below:
Pros (+):
1. Location close to Malioboro.
2. The room layout is different from other hotels, clean and combines classic design with modern minimalist touches, blended with bright colors.
3. The television, air conditioning, refrigerator, shower, toilet, and lights all function very well. Especially the TV and refrigerator, which in some hotels are often just for display.
4. Breakfast is quite varied.
5. Friendly service.
Minuses (-):
1. Breakfast was varied, but lacking in seasoning, almost all the menu items. Especially the fried rice, which was completely dry, and the tom yam, which I found only slightly salty, with no noticeable sourness or spiciness. Only Klapertart and Chicken Curry, along with basic dishes like omelettes and fried foods, were available. Overall, the breakfast was inferior to many hotels priced lower than Patra.
2. Breakfast was full of ants, green flies, and some were even dead in the salad. I felt nauseous and didn't eat any. Except for the sliced fruit.
3. The service was friendly, but almost everyone on the staff looked extremely tired, exhausted from something else. This was in the kitchen or the breakfast service area.
4. Parking is quite limited.
5. This was the worst part: I found my room, Room 521, with a connecting door that didn't close properly. There was a clear gap for peeping or being peeped at by my neighbor. It wasn't a narrow gap, nor was it wide, but it was very obvious from the other side.
