The Shinkansen ride from Shin-Osaka to Kyoto was very smooth and convenient. Redeeming the QR code at the ticket gate was straightforward—just scan and enter, no need to line up at the counter. The station signage makes it easy to find the correct platform, so boarding was hassle-free.

Since the trip is quite short, everything feels quick and efficient. If you have a reserved seat, choosing a window seat is still a nice option to enjoy the passing scenery, even for a brief moment. It adds a pleasant touch to the journey.

Overall, comfortable, fast, and very easy to navigate—a great way to travel between Shin-Osaka and Kyoto.

Booking tickets is easy. I booked my Shinkansen Green Car ticket two months in advance, worried that the Mt. Fuji view seats would be sold out during the cherry blossom season. I received my Shinkansen QR code one month before departure. On my departure date, just scan the QR code at the JR Shinkansen station entrance and depart.
A medium-sized suitcase (24") can be stored in the compartment above the seat.

It's really easy to order a JR EAST Japan Pass. After payment, the voucher code will be sent immediately. Once you arrive at Narita or Haneda International Airport, just go to JR East Travel to exchange your pass for the original one. This pass is valid at all JR East stations, so don't lose it. To book reserved Shinkansen tickets, just go to JR EAST Travel at the station location in Japan. For those traveling long distances, this is really worth it, especially those from Narita Airport, who can directly use the NEX Narita Express with this pass. Similarly, if you exchange for a JR EAST pass and buy a SUICA IC CARD at the same location, the SUICA card is free, just top it up directly at JR EAST Travel. This SUICA IC CARD can be used on all Tokyo Subway lines, so you don't have to bother buying tickets and can also be used for payments at shops or vending machines.

Gampang banget deh pokoknya kalau pesan JR EAST Japan Pass. Setelah bayar, dikirim kode voucher-nya langsung. Begitu sampai di bandara internasional Narita atau Haneda, tinggal ke JR East Travel untuk tukar pass-nya yang asli. Pass ini dipakai di semua stasiun JR East jadi jangan sampai hilang. Untuk pemesanan tiket Shinkansen yang reserved, tinggal ke JR EAST Travel yang ada di lokasi stasiun di Jepang. Untuk yang perginya jauh-jauh, ini worthed banget sih, terutama yang dari Narita Airport bisa langsung pakai NEX Narita Express pakai pass ini. Sama, kalau pas tukar JR EAST beli sekalian SUICA IC CARD di lokasi yang sama, card SUICA-nya gratis, tinggal isinya saja langsung di JR EAST Travel sekalian. SUICA IC CARD ini bisa dipakai di semua Subway Tokyo jadi gak repot beli tiket dan bisa dipakai juga untuk pembayaran di toko-toko atau vending machine.

Just a tip: before submitting your name and passport number, make sure you double-check everything. Especially if you're purchasing in someone else's name. Wrong names or passport numbers can't be corrected once the voucher is issued. Besides that, depending on your destination, this pass can save you money on transportation costs while in Japan. For 15,000 yen, I used it to Karuizawa, Kawazu, and Echigo Yuzawa. Without the pass, the total round-trip ticket price for these three places would have been 30,000 yen. So, make your trip worth it.

Just a tip, sebelum submit nama dan nomor paspor, make sure semuanya dicek berkali-kali. Apalagi kalau ada beliin atas nama orang lain. Karena salah nama atau nomor paspor ga bisa dibetulin setelah voucher issued. Aside from that, tergantung destinasi kalian pass ini bisa menghemat biaya transportasi selama di Jepang. Dengan harga 15.000 yen, saya pakai ini ke Karuizawa, Kawazu dan Echigo Yuzawa yang kalau tanpa pass totalan harga tiket round trip ke-3 tempat ini bisa mencapai 30.000 yen. Jadi make your trip worth it.
