NAM Air History

On 26 September 2013, Chandra Lie as Vice President of Sriwijaya Air officially inaugurated NAM Air at Djakarta Theatre building. Basically, the airline was designed to support its major airline, Sriwijaya Air, by operating as a feeder that connects flights to and from the hub airports in Jakarta, Surabaya, and Denpasar. In order to accomplish this long-term business plan, the parent company of NAM Air had ordered 100 units of R80 planes from a local aircraft manufacturer company owned by B.J. Habibie.

As a medium-range flight, NAM Air obtained the Air Operators Certificate (AOC) 121, which signifies that NAM Air operates as a commercial scheduled flight with capacity over 30 seats.

Its non-commercial inaugural flight commenced on 11 December 2013, serving Jakarta (CGK)-Pangkal Pinang (PGK) route. The passengers included were Sriwijaya Air’s board of directors along with their business partners, domestic and international travel agencies, and journalists.

This then followed by NAM Air's first commercial flight which launched on 19 December 2013, serving Jakarta-Pontianak, Surabaya-Palu, Palu-Luwuk, Surabaya-Pangkalan Bun, Pontianak-Yogyakarta, and Pangkalan Bun-Semarang routes.

As a start, NAM Air operated two Boeing 737s and flew to Waingapu, Biak, Labuan Bajo, Pangkalan Bun, etc.
