Daigoji Temple Sanhoin Toyotomi Hideyoshi hand-picked a famous spot for cherry blossom viewing! Daigoji Temple, a world heritage site located in Mount Daigo in Kyoto, has many buildings and art collections listed as Japanese national treasures. Toyotomi Hideyoshi held a flower viewing party [Daigo no Hanami] at the foot of Daigoji Sanhoin in the third year of Keicho, which made Daigoji Temple famous in history as a famous cherry blossom spot.
Byodo-in is a national treasure hall that is printed on Japan’s 10-yen coin! The Phoenix Hall of Byodo-in Temple was built by Fujiwara Yorimichi, who served as Kanpaku in the late Heian period. It is also the only precious building preserved from that era, the only one in Japan. The biggest feature of its architecture is that it is built on an island in the pool, symbolizing the appearance of the Paradise floating in the water.
