The room was spacious with a beautiful wilderness view from the window and door. The staff were extremely helpful. Reasonable bar prices and breakfast was good value for money, when buffet style was provided with a choice of continental or English breakfast. Plenty of parking. 1 minute walk to Marwell Zoo.

What a shame, this is clearly an under funded and uncared for hotel. The executive room we booked on entering smelt musty and damp. The carpets look like they should have been changed years ago and are marked and stained. The draws wouldn’t stay closed , yes they simply slide open regardless of how many times you try to close them. Our mattress had seen better days although our daughter’s bed in the room next door was better. There were cobwebs in the rooms and general areas and the windows haven’t been cleaned in a long time. The hotel the night before a wedding which was full of guests for two weddings the following day was woefully understaffed and food service was slow and sporadic. That said the food quality was good as was breakfast and breakfast service. I really hope once the refurbishment is done it lifts this place to what it should be given its location.

But shabby round the edges and the cleaning missed the dark corners of my bathroom! Overall ok although my patio door lock wasn't working so I couldn't lock it ajar for some much needed cool air overnight. Restaurant menu a bit limited, burgers, steak or fish and chips, no small options.

Its a lovely place to stay we have stayed here before but I was very disappointed in the fact it states theres a swimming pool which ive used before- but once youve paid for stay you then get a message from hotel to say swimming pool is out of order due to refurbishment- ok we had to accept but we then tried to cancel due to a funeral to find out the do not give refunds at this hotel and could not change the dates unless I paid extra Not sure i would stay here again we checked out 2 days early we wasn't even asked if everything was ok due to early leaving

Rooms were fine, lots of nice scenic views. Staff were helpful and friendly, wasn't impressed with the food though. The unseasoned steak I ordered didn't see the inside of a frying pan at all and the breakfast was a bit low on the portion side of things considering it was about £11 per person. Lovely IPA on tap at the bar though!

Room was adequate and clean although there were glasses and a broken travel cot left in communal areas for the duration of our stay. we didn't eat so cannot comment. Requested additional towels after booking room for 3 but were only supplied one. The most disappointing thing was that we booked this specifically as we were travelling with a child and it was advertised as having a pool. Unfortunately due to refurbishment it turns out the pool is unavailable for 2026 which after a 30 degree day spent at the zoo was unwelcome news and had hotels.com made this clear on booking we would have booked an alternative hotel.

Had to ask for a different as the room we were originally given was horrendous. There was dirt everywhere, splatters up the walls, chunks missing out the walls, mould on doors and in the bathroom, one of the electrical fittings were loose. The room they moved us too wasn’t much better but we were down for a wedding and was convenient location. The hotel needs a good bit of TLC which after speaking to the manager in charge did state that was the case. The staff were great though, really polite and super helpful when there was an issue.. it’s just a shame the property itself didn’t match how good the staff were.

Hotel is in a lovely area and looks beautiful inside and out. The staff I met were nice, however was disappointed after having a long day to arrive and told they were not serving any food (was around 7pm). Our room was nice and mostly clean (empty bottles were left on the floor when we arrived) and the TV would only work on BBC1 and ITV and we couldn't use the remote as this didnt work either 🙈

The Hotel is undergoing upgrades - the pool Was unavailable but the bed was comfy, shower hot and good hot breakfast. Ok for price. I just wish they would upgrade/ freshen up the hotel front as my first impression was a scout camp! I’d stay again knowing what to expect

Recently painted an upgraded rooms but didn’t mask the fairly old infrastructure of the hotel. I stayed in a room with an interconnecting door that was quite noisy from the neighbours next door. I would recommend specifically asking for a non-interconnecting room if you are a solo traveller. The breakfast had everything you would expect but the quality of the hot food wasn’t great. Easy parking and as budget hotels go it wasn’t the worst.

We recently stayed at Marwell Hotel for two nights and, unfortunately, it was a mixed experience leaning towards disappointing. On arrival, we were given our key and sent to a room that clearly hadn’t been cleaned—half-made beds, a pint glass, a pepperami wrapper, no towels, and marks on surfaces. We had to carry all our belongings back to reception, which wasn’t ideal. The manager did resolve the issue and offered a complimentary drink while we waited, and we were moved rooms after about 30 minutes, which we appreciated. What let the experience down most was the atmosphere among staff. We witnessed multiple arguments involving management, including one near our room with the cleaning team and another with a receptionist. The receptionist remained calm and professional throughout, but the manager’s behaviour came across as rude and uncomfortable to witness. The second room was acceptable but not without issues—cold on arrival, with no working heating (an oil radiator was provided), and no windows to open, which made the room feel stuffy overnight. There were some positives: the bar food was lovely, and the staff we encountered there were friendly, although clearly understaffed. Breakfast was okay but limited, and service was slow. The hotel itself is in a great location for visiting Marwell Zoo and is peaceful, but it is very dated and in need of refurbishment. The website photos don’t reflect the current condition. The pool was also closed during our stay.

It is so unfortunate that a hotel with this potential has been somewhat neglected. We have visited previously and the change since then is apparent. Still wonderful staff, still a fantastic location but the rooms are in dire need of attention. Nothing as horrific as mould or dirt, still very well cleaned but the cleaners have an uphill struggle with the aging of the property. We will most likely return, it's still a good hotel but it could be fantastic!!

Room was clean & tidy, may be a bit on the "tired" side, but no complaints. The connecting corridors from reception to accommodation blocks were cold, but the accommodation blocks and rooms were nice & warm. Restaurant menu I thought was limited - certainly nothing special and a bit on the prciet side for what you got (I had a chicken Cesar salad and it wasn't the best - lettuce seemed like it was from a 99p ASDA packet and on the "turn", about 6 small croutons, and chicken “breast” that had been "coated" in something...and was very wet - all the signs of cheap ingredients used to try and make an expensive looking dish (it didn’t look or taste it, sorry). Breakfast – good selection – cold & hot. Usual problem with cooked food left under heat lamps… dried out food, especially the eggs, followed by the beans and mushrooms – I asked for poached eggs and they were PERFECT. Overall, an ok stay, clean & tidy, but a tired hotel (I stayed here around 10 yrs ago and nothing had changed) – has great potential due to outs “rural & woodland” setting, but needs investment.

Great hotel. Staff were good but let down with restaurant weekend staff that could have done more. I kinda felt they didn't make an effort asking a colleague or finding out to andwer my questions instead of just saying "I don't know" Got my simple request wrong 3 times which was a shame. In the end I didn't insist anymore as I felt will just add to my stress.
