Very nice old style hotel with excellent service and in a great location

One of the bars were closed Hotel was freezing Needs a lot of modernisation Service and wait time for food was very slow Unfriendly and unhelpful reception The thud and pound of the music from 7am as a wake up call was not ideal Constant dripping freezing water from the shower was a tad inconvenient

Excellent facilities and very clean room. Very quiet. Only downside was radiators on full all night and could not be turned down/off so very hot.

Staff were friendly and helpful, dinner delicious, and gluten free porridge available at breakfast. Our room was spacious and clean although dated. The bathroom was exceptionally cold sadly. Otherwise a pleasant stay in lovely grounds and a beautiful historic building.

We only stayed one night as we were up to visit our pup for the first time. We had no serious negatives about the hotel with the only exception to a bit more character in the room. Our room was a spacious double, which was clean with a very large, comfortable kingsize. We did book a table in the restaurant and the food was extremely good. It is a shame it wasn’t as busy as we expected, specially as it was 5 days to Xmas. If you stay, I would recommend the restaurant. The food and service was very good. Breakfast did the trick for us! Overall, we will be staying again in mid January and if it was not that good, we would have stayed elsewhere. Worth noting, if you are at the far end of the hotel, it will be worth checking out the stairs downstairs before the main staircase as they are shortcuts to the bar and restaurant.

Staff are fantastic. Just needs a revamp. Hardly any sign posting to the gym or spa. In fact, none.

Bed was extremely comfortable and quiet and warm room but the carpet in the disabled room 117 was in need of renewing dirty marks and did not feel clean.the shower head and attachment were broken and hence I had a bad shower.the exit from this part of the building was not lit up well and i found it very difficult being disabled to see properly to get to my car.think I would not recommend or be staying again.

Clean friendly helpful

Room and bathroom clean, bed very comfortable a good heating. Staff very helpful & friendly. Attended the hotel for a works Christmas Party and the food was very nice.

Very good overall. Friendly staff, spacious rooms, good night sleep. Best steak I've had for a long time in the restaurant, although their prices have gone up quite a lot since I was last there 6 months ago. Some parts of room looking a little tired (furniture, shower, heater all looking quite battered and old) and due a refresh, but doesn't take away from overall value and good stay. I will stay again no question

It was ok, water supply in bathroom poor, shower unit coming off wall, bath side panel with visible water damage. Bright light outside directly outside room, even with curtains drawn it was still very bright. High levels of condensation on single pain windows. Breakfast buffett was running low at 09:30, run out of some things, reluctance to replenish.

Lovely stay

Clean hotel and room with very helpful staff. Food was good quality

There were many issues with this hotel. 1. Arrived at the hotel reception with all luggage etc., only to find out that the room was in the other building and best would be to drive there. Someone could've said that in a message prior to my check-in. Receptionist didn't show any respect or concern that I had to take all luggage back to the car. 2. Room (so called suite) was a difficult to find as many other rooms, separate building. Finally found the room and had a very messy entrance, full of leaves and dust. 3. An hour later, pitch black outside and couldn't even find the entrance without phone torch. Many windows, 2 next to an external road and privacy wasn't respected through the blinds as no curtains. I didn't feel safe and notified the hotel. I was told that will get back to me via phone but no one did. There wasn't any phone in the room so expected mobile phone call. 4. Back and forth with the reception staff who offered a different room but wouldn't be a suite and a smaller room so denied. 5. Asked to check out early the next day and asked for money back for the 2nd night as a minimum but denied as the manager wasn't available until after 2 days (Mon). Wasn't given any money back. 6. Morning breakfast was terrible experience. So many other people were waiting for tea and trays to be replenished. 7. Moreover Expedia was terrible in handling this request overall and said couldn't do anything at all. That's very poor. Never with Expedia again.

I wasnt aware when I booked that I wouldn’t be staying in the main house but in the gatehouse across the car park and down the drive. I arrived late in the evening and as a solo female traveller it was a bit unnerving having to walk to my room outside in the dark with my bags. The room felt musty and was cold - I don’t think it had been used in a while - it took a few hours of having the heater on to be warm enough to sleep. The musty smell didn’t really improve and I can’t wait to get home and wash my clothes! There was a used towel and a dead spider in the bathroom. Breakfast was good - self service, staff were polite without being overly friendly and cleared plates quickly. I stayed for a wedding and the wedding itself was wonderful. I probably wouldn’t stay again without requesting a room in the main house.

The room I was in felt very dated! The heating didn’t work and the single pain glass windows made it very very cold. There was no option of an extra blanket which was disappointing. The walls are quite thin which was unfortunate as I could hear the person next door going to the toilet and snoring through the night. Can’t comment on food as didn’t eat at the hotel. Just a little disappointed about the reaction from the receptionist when reported the heating didn’t work.
