The staff at the hotel were fantastic. Friendly and helpful. The breakfast choice was excellent. I do stay in a lot of hotels and the breakfast was one of the best in my opinion. Pool and spa area all clean. A bit dated in places. The bedroom was exceptionally clean with fresh water and tea coffee biscuits each day. The only negative was our room was extremely hot. Was altogether a wonderful hotel made mostly by the lovely staff.

Don’t let the cleaning staff put you off having your room done. A knock on the door and they ask if we need anything. I felt as though I just had to say yes clean towels and coffee . On the first night I took the duvet out of the cover as it was too warm. Told the cleaner the next morning and then she said do you want me to make the bed. So I made the bed for the remaining 2 nights. (I can do that at home. ) The sink was never cleaned nor the toilet. Overall we had a lovely 3 nights stay and the hotel was lovely. Breakfast was lovely too . The room cleaning was my only gripe maybe I should have been assertive and asked her to do room service.

One of the few hotels in central Ambleside with lots of facilities which was a bonus. Although the sauna and steam room were a little chilly! Areas of the hotel were being upgraded with others still to do - bathrooms and main dining area.

If you book a room with an outside hot tub double check you don’t get the Troutbeck room. The balcony is awful! Firstly, it is overlooked by a loft window above, so limited privacy and able to hear any conversations. On one side of the balcony there is two shipping containers stacked on top of each other, the other side an unkempt wall with a water feature attached. The water feature clearly hadn’t worked for sometime and was full of stagnant water. We raised this issue immediately but nothing was done to remedy this. Your view is off a metal fence with large gaps in it allowing walkers passing to see in . The room itself was fine. The staff were all pleasant and breakfast was pretty good . I booked the room through Expedia cheaper than the hotel offers so maybe that’s why we got the shabby room. I can’t comment on other rooms but this certainly wasn’t worth the money we paid!

Great location for Ambleside and the lakes. Only minor points were car park was pretty tight and only 2 spaces that EVs could use of which one had a reserved car for a disabled driver (although next door sauce was marked for such cars).
Lack of air con made room quite warm on what was a very hot weekend, however rooms were well appointed and spacious.
Spa and gym were excellent and worth a visit, very clean too.
Food for breakfast could not be faulted and nice to have a varied choice of fish too.
Overall, highly recommended and good vfm too.

A lovely hotel in the heart of Ambleside. Our balcony room was in an annexe just a few steps from the main hotel. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the outdoor jacuzzi in the spa was a lifesaver in the immense heat we have just had. The food in the restaurant was lovely, breakfast was a continental buffet and hot from the menu and the dinner choice was very good and well priced.

We had a 5 night stay in June and on arrival we were awarded a room upgrade. The suite 'Woodlands' was excellent and although across the yard, was no problem at all.
Breakfasts were excellent with a great choice, including many fruits. Individual cooked items were well presented and tasty. We took 2 evening meals at the hotel and again the choice of meals on the menu and the quality was superb.
Staff were very helpful, professional and courteous.
The facilities including the lounge, bar, swimming pool, sauna, steam room and indoor and outdoor jacuzzis were all excellent
All in all a superb stay and a place thoroughly recommended and one worth coming back to.

Excellent hotel. Arrived early and was able to park up. The weather wasn’t too good so was able to use spa before checking in. Spa was really good and spent 2 hrs chilling whilst it rained outside. Staff throughout the hotel were all very helpful and the breakfast was superb.
Will defo stay at the hotel again and I would recommend it to anyone who wants the freedom to use the facilities of the hotel but be in close proximity to bars and restaurants outside.

All was great, except we thought we had paid for an upgraded room. While it did have a balcony, it overlooked the parking lot rather than the village, with a tight configuration at the window. One staff member was particularly helpful, giving us great advice on hikes.

Great location for the lakes and central, great hotel - lovely. Bit of advice they have just opened up an outside bar in front of the special spa rooms, so if you are in a spa pool on your balcony it may be noisy - need to check with hotel I would suggest. The bar wasn't open when we went, It was just below and in front of our balcony so I can imagine it could get rowdy on an evening when some may just want to relax in their private outdoor spa on the balcony with a lovely view ? And the rooms are not cheap !! Great rooms as you have a private infra-red sauna and steam compartment/shower = WOW!! Breakfast and restaurant dinner food delicious

The breakfast was freshly cooked and it was really flexible choice from the menu. There was a full continental choice including porridge and whiskey and fruit and pastries. The staff were exceptional and you could see them being flexible across all areas of the hotel to make sure guests did not need to wait for anything. The parking was easily accessible and there was a spa and gym facilities that we didn't use as we had not prepared but when we go back we will definitely pack out swimming costumes
