Truely a 5⭐️ experience staying at Hotel Indigo. My partner and I booked a private onsen room which was a delight to enjoy in the mornings. The room amenities were well laid out and the attention to detail around the property was excellent. The staff clearly work together as a team to ensure that you have the most relaxing time possible. We utilized both the short hiking trail and the shuttle service to explore the town of Gora up the hill. I wish we could have stayed for several more days, there's just too much to see. During your stay I highly recommend making a reservation at Itoh for dinner, and the Gora brewery and grill for lunch. Gora has many other amazing restaurants as well. It is a quite town, where things close down a bit early. It's the perfect time to make your way back to the hotel for a hot bath and you can relax with a bottle of wine or sake. Thank you!

On the plus side -- we had a very clean room and the staff was extremely friendly. There was also a foot bath out on the patio which we used both days we were there. We were surprised that we couldn't eat in the restaurant. Our small, modest room, NOT facing the water was just over $500/night. I don't think we received a room commensurate with the price. The value wasn't there for us. And we couldn't eat in the restaurant because they stated they were booked. We ended up sitting in the bar area and never saw the tables in the restaurant "full." Also, the spa area was LOUD which is opposite of Japanese culture and no one monitored it. We left because it was so loud in there. We wouldn't stay there again because the price is overblown for what you don't get. We stayed at much nicer places throughout the past 2 weeks for a lot less money but received so much more and did not have a problem eating in the hotel we were staying at.

Hotel indigo has amazing service. The check in process was clear and ringing staff for help was easy. Everything was clean and well put together. My expectations were exceeded when staying here.

The hotel is lovely, the view of the river is very soothing. The welcome drinks are a really nice touch, service is excellent, breakfast was great, with very tasty Japanese and Western options. The shared onsen also was very nice. There really are only two issues with the hotel. First, the amenities were sparse. Lots for an American or European place, but by Japanese standards, still a bit short. No brush or comb, and nice robes but no pyjamas. On request, they’ll give you those, but the pyjamas are more thick sweatshirt and sweatpants than what I got at every other, even cheaper, Japanese hotel I ever have stayed in. Second, the location is not great. The town of Gora is small, doesn’t have much of anything to do, and the few food places are way overpriced, unlike most in Japan. Summary: if you’re there for the hotel and onsen and service and breakfast, it is a great place. Accept you won’t have good pyjamas, and that there’s not much to do right there. If you’re heading further towards Lake Ashi and you’re ok with it, then you’ll enjoy.

Excellent place to saty

Lovely hotel we stayed in, and it was so great to have our private onsen! Love it!

The hotel was great but Hakone not so much. I got a river view which also included an industrial looking neighborhood. Probably not worth the expense. The restaurant was pricey but outstanding. Worth the bill.

Beautiful, the in room onsen was amazing and the room was awesome. Great staff. Great location. Wish I could stay for longer- perfect to break up the hustle and bustle of the big cities. Make sure you arrive early- all of the attractions close around 5 pm, which I didn’t realize, but the staff stored my luggage while I went to explore on check out day. The only thing that wasn’t amazing was dinner, but I didn’t go for one of the higher priced wagyu steaks. Otherwise , a perfect stay.

The property is pretty remote. Make sure you time your Shinkansen with the hotel shuttles of your can find yourself waiting a long time. We took a taxi to the hotel which was 7200Y. Loved the public onsen and the private onsen. Breakfast and Dinner were not great for the price you are paying so we opted to eat off property instead
