This was the second time we stayed at this resort. Food is excellent. Beach is beautiful.

This is our second time at this location. Our room was cleaned daily, water and beverages in our room was re stocked. Food was fresh and delicious. The staff does a good job maintaining the seaweed that comes ashore during this time of year. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We will come again.

Im Allgemeinen ein sehr schönes und sauberes Hotel, mit direktem Zugang zum Strand. Die Hotelmitarbeiter sind freundlich und hilfsbereit. Ich fand den Strand super. Es gibt genug Platz und das Wasser hat die für die Karibik typische hellblaue Farbe. Wie in der ganzen Region aber, hat es Braunalgen an der Küste. Es wird versucht diesen jeden Morgen zu entfernen, sodass gewisse Strandabschnitte tagsüber fast frei davon sind. Mich hat dies aber nicht gestört, gefährlich ist es auch nicht. Auf dem Gelände des Hotels leben auch viele heimische Tiere, die man oft sieht. Bsp. sind Nasenbären, Leguane und Agutis. Es soll auch Brüllaffen geben. Man hat Zugang zu 2 anderen Riu Hotels (yucatan und tequila). Diese haben je ein eigenes Unterhaltungsprogramm. Wie ich gesehen habe, werden auch Wasseraktivitäten und Touren direkt im Hotel angeboten. Ein Nachteil, man ist etwas weg vom Zentrum (5th ave.) Man benötigt ca. 30 Minuten zu Fuss dorthin. Man kann allenfalls auch ein Taxi nehmen, kostet einfach. Falls dieser Punkt nicht stört, ist das Hotel sehr empfehlenswert.

Great time!

Everything was great except you might ask people are they late night or early bedtimers. Because the music from nightly entertainment was unbearable most nights until 11.pm Or you need a wall built by building 2103 that is sound proof. One night I was literally going to lose my mind it was so loud.

Bunch of seaweed on the beach, instead of taking care of it daily, they allow it to pile up, can’t even take walks along the shoreline. Need to place umbrellas for shade on the beach, palm trees do not provide enough shade.

All you with the exception of palace you can use services and amenities! Air conditioner in room could have been more cold!

The staff & service were phenomenal - all of them! The property overall is very nice. It was difficult to keep a comfortable temperature in our room and the towels were very thin. The pool towels seemed much newer. There are three great pools, but only TWO stalls in the women’s restroom down there. ALWAYS a long line!

We stayed at RIU Playacar and were very satisfied with our experience. The food was excellent — everything was delicious, with a great variety, and we especially appreciated the good selection of seafood. We were given a nice room in building 7. It’s not brand new, but everything was clean and well-maintained. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the view from the room was beautiful. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and left with only positive impressions.

Our family vacation was completely ruined by a severe medical emergency caused by the resort’s food. Out of our group of six, every single person fell violently ill. The Illness: What was meant to be a relaxing getaway turned into a "family cluster" of Acute Infectious Gastroenteritis. Our group suffered from high fevers (up to 101.1°F), relentless vomiting, and diarrhea. We were formally diagnosed by doctors and prescribed Azithromycin and Zofran just to manage the infection. We traced the source to shrimp at the main buffet (04/08) and chicken/fruit at the Asian restaurant (04/13). The Red Flags (Hygiene & Safety): While staying here, I noticed shocking lapses in regulatory transparency. The resort’s public boards display: An Environmental Operating License that expired in March 2024. A Sanitary Dictum dated from 2017. It is no wonder our entire group became ill when the resort is operating with health and safety documentation that is nearly a decade out of date. The hygiene standards here are clearly not being monitored by the proper authorities. Management Response: Despite providing medical reports and pharmacy receipts from Farmacia Playacar, management (Riu/After Travel Care) is currently dragging their feet on a refund The Bottom Line: We spent the majority of our stay confined to our rooms in significant physical distress. DONT GO!
