arrived at 10-30 at night as a family hotel on first impression was dated tired grubby room appeared clean but dated stained carpets went to bed at 11-30 we both coukd not sleep as we were itching and scratching the whole time in seperate beds went to reception was offered another room byt we declined we made a judgement that with the state of the hotel and it being 2am what difference would this make as our view was the state of hotel left us with a big question mark. was refused a refund because we did not accept alternative room was offered a £50 room in tbe future as if a room in the future was on my agenda ! My advice AVOID this hotel.

We were there to host guests for a business forum. Chosen because of its location as we were attending classics on the common at Harpenden

Treated like a second class person as we had a guide dog. Put in an awful room! Requested a fridge and to have a patio door but ignored. Paid premium price £171 of which £25was for our Guide Dog who is cleaner than a lot of their guests apparently. Compared to our previous stay it was very poor. Even said we were not allowed to stay in the room we had as it had been refurbished and no longer a dog room. So basically all their old rooms they hired out to dog owners at premium prices as not allowed to stay in a refurbished room! Absolutely disgusted!

Nice independent hotel in rural location. Staff super friendly, helpful and welcoming. Had noisy neighbours unfortunately, who chatted loudly until 2am!

I feel as though at one point this hotel would have been lovely. It’s just been left to deteriorate over time. Such a shame The guy at the front desk was ok but lacked any kind of service capability. 1 plug in the whole room that was on the opposite side of the bed so had to be bought a massive extension lead which wasn’t hugely practical. I was working from there for a few days and needed a plug for a phone, laptop and other things so this felt rather impracticable. Wouldn’t stay there again for the £111 a night a paid.

Room was clean but small especially bathroom. Variety of food for breakfast but could be improved. Reception area very good but rest of hotel could do with refurbishing.

Check in and check out was functional but not friendly. Tired decor. A group of students were staying, and as I parent I understand kids will be kids, but I did have to call reception to request intervention, which did happen, but sadly, this didn't resolve the situation, with a group of boys just outside my room window, and in the room door corridor. As a lone female business traveller, this was intimidating and disruptive.

Parking was ok, i waited ages on arrival, over 10 mins, and i had to find a member of staff at the bar to help. literally no one was on reception at all. Once I checked in the toilet hadn't been cleaned properly. Not ideal. The rooms were small and functional. They were ok. I would say the hotel was on par with a premier in or holiday in style hotel. The breakfast in the morning was nice, again a total lack of staff. I just felt the staff throughout the stay were practically non existent. I spoke with other guests who were their whilst their children attended a camp and they were not offered any additional support. I think that is super poor. It is a shame as it has the potential to be a nice place. The tables outside were dirty and not just outdoor dust, they hadnt been cleared... it was just not a great impression...luckily i only stayed for 1 night!

No AC in hotel just a fan of heat days of 34 the break fast was horrible for 16£ per pers Gave the worst room ever seen but i insist for another one 23h30 the receptionist finally changes the room noo activity it was like dormatorys

Lovely place to stay, it feels so Mediterranean inside. It has a lovely atmosphere and rooms are really cosy with everything you need.

I had travelled up from Bournemouth on the evening of 16th June to the Aubrey Hotel. The hotel was very well known to me, because I had lived in Hemel Hempstead for many years. And the hotel's reputation had always been good. When arriving in the evening i was unable to find a parking place. The car parks were full and other visitors had parked all over the place. The road on entering the premises was very poor the road had large pot holes and cracks in it. And because of this I had to block other vehicles, temporarily. The reception staff were not very helpful 😕 and just said leave it where you have parked and come back later after the wedding had finished. And hopefully there be a space then. I was not happy with his attitude and couldn't understand there language, they were not very considered. I was given a room right at the back of the building. When entering the room some ten minutes later. And now very close to 22.00 hour's feeling tired. The room was very basic and not what I had expected. After all the hotel, had been known to have a good reputation with friendly staff. I was very disappointed with room which was not very clean. The sheets were grubby and didn't smell very fresh, there was only half a toilet roll, which had been used and soiled on the paper. And I had to throw this away aswell. The floor was filthy and the plastic bath mat which had not been cleaned. The carpets throughout the room was disgusting. I now wish I had complained. Not good enough. 😐

The hotel is in a great location. A lot of the rooms need upgrading and there was no air conditioning which made it very uncomfortable and difficult to sleep overa very hot weekend. Also, the extractor fan in the bathroom was not working. The breakfast was basic but ok.

Room rather small, but clean. Did the job. Staff very friendly and helpful at check in. Great to see an independent hotel doing well!

No fan in bathroom so lots of condensation after a hot shower. Bed very hard. We could not find aircon. Front car park full. Carpet old and old fashioned. Tired decor overall.

Comfortable bedding, spacious enough room. Bed was clean, although bathroom needed a little more attention. Lots of loose wall fixtures such as the curtain rail, shower rail and sink tap all holding on for dear life. Long walk from reception to room through a maze of corridors and steps. Lots of space for parking. Complimentary biscuits always sweeten the stay,

Ample parking, friendly staff, good restaurant/bar options for food.

The hotel is nice, and the staff were ok. I did enjoy my evening meal! My mattress was extremely poor. Annoyingly, small moths kept on flying from the fan in the bathroom, which wasn't great. Not my first choice, but I would consider staying there again.
