Hotel Colmena is an unpretentious option, well-located and with great service. Overall, the experience was a positive one, made especially memorable by the attentiveness of the staff (shoutout to señora Reyna!) and the common areas.
The room itself is basic: a full-size double bed, a desk, a mirror, a wardrobe rail, and a mini fridge. The bathroom is in good condition and has a spacious shower. That said, the bathroom is separated from the room by a sliding door with an open ceiling above it, so sound travels freely. For us as a couple, this wasn’t an issue, but it could feel awkward if you’re sharing a room with friends.
Breakfast is included in the stay. It’s quite good, though it doesn’t change much from day to day. That said, there are enough ingredients available that you can mix and match to make each morning feel a little different.
Housekeeping was good, the room was always kept clean. Towel changes did need to be requested, though. The hotel also offers a laundry service, which felt a bit pricey to me, but I suppose you’re paying for the convenience.
The hotel has a lovely little courtyard, perfect for having breakfast. One thing worth noting: the beds may feel cramped for taller or larger guests, as there’s not a lot of room to stretch out. Offering a few rooms with queen-size beds would be a welcome upgrade.
All in all, it’s a great choice if you’re looking for something simple, functional, and well-located with friendly staff.
