Langkawi Waterfalls: 3 Scenic Spots to Add to Your Island Trip

Searching for a Langkawi waterfall? There isn't actually one waterfall officially named “Langkawi Waterfall”. Langkawi is an archipelago of 99 islands, with the main island of Pulau Langkawi home to several waterfalls tucked into its forested landscape.

Among the best-known are Seven Wells Waterfall, Temurun Waterfall, and Durian Perangin Waterfall. Each offers a different experience, from a forest hike and natural pools to an easy nature stop that fits neatly into a day of island exploring.

Waterfalls in Langkawi

If you're swapping some beach time for a little rainforest adventure, these three waterfalls are worth adding to your Langkawi itinerary.

1. Seven Wells Waterfall

Also known as Telaga Tujuh, Seven Wells Waterfall sits in the northwestern part of Langkawi within the Machinchang Forest Reserve. Its name comes from the seven natural pools formed by the cascading water, surrounded by lush forest.

Getting to the waterfall involves stairs and a forest trail, so expect more walking than at some of Langkawi's other waterfall stops. The effort gives you a more adventurous nature experience, with opportunities for hiking, wading, swimming, and wildlife spotting listed among the activities at the Forest Eco Park.

The area is also close to other attractions in the Machinchang area, making Seven Wells a natural addition to a day that includes Langkawi SkyCab or other northwestern island sights.

2. Temurun Waterfall

If you want something easier to fit into your itinerary, Temurun Waterfall is a convenient choice. Located near Datai Bay within the Machinchang Forest Reserve, it is known as Langkawi's tallest waterfall.

One of its biggest advantages is accessibility. The waterfall is visible from the road, and the surrounding forest eco-park offers activities including wading, swimming, trekking and birdwatching.

That makes it a good option if your ideal waterfall visit is less about a challenging hike and more about cooling off in a rainforest setting before continuing your Langkawi adventure.

3. Durian Perangin Waterfall

Located in northern Langkawi, Durian Perangin Waterfall is a 14-tier waterfall surrounded by rainforest.

Compared with Seven Wells, Durian Perangin can feel more relaxed. The combination of multiple cascades, greenery and natural pools makes it a nice place to spend a few hours rather than simply stopping for a photo.

It's also a useful addition if you're already exploring northern Langkawi, so you can pair your waterfall visit with other attractions in the area instead of crossing the island just for one stop.

Viewing & Hiking Tips for Langkawi Waterfalls

A waterfall may look inviting, but remember that you're visiting a natural environment rather than a controlled swimming attraction. A little preparation can make the experience much safer and more comfortable.

Check the weather before heading out. Reconsider your plans if the weather turns rough.
Wear shoes with good grip. Wet rocks, stairs and forest paths can be slippery, especially after rain.
Don't climb beyond designated areas. Rocks around waterfalls can be uneven, wet and unstable even when they look easy to cross.
Take extra care around natural pools. Water depth and current can vary, swim only where conditions are suitable and follow any local restrictions.
Start earlier if you can. Morning visits generally give you cooler conditions for walking and more time to enjoy the surroundings.
Bring drinking water. Even shorter waterfall visits involve walking outdoors in Langkawi's tropical climate.
Pack light but practical. A small dry bag, towel, change of clothes, insect repellent and waterproof phone pouch can come in handy.

How to Get Around Langkawi's Waterfalls

Langkawi's waterfalls aren't all located next to each other, so getting around is part of planning the trip.

For travellers who want to visit more than one waterfall or combine them with beaches and other attractions, driving or renting a car is one of the most flexible options. You can set your own schedule without having to wait for transport between stops.

A scooter can also work for confident riders, particularly if you're travelling light and are comfortable riding around the island. Just take extra care on wet roads and when travelling through less familiar areas.

Taxis and other ride services can work for individual visits, but arranging your return journey in advance can be useful, particularly when visiting attractions farther from the main tourist areas.
