Alto Hotel on Bourke

Hotel was 4 star rated. However the property is quite old. Good location, can walk everywhere and close to station. Unfortunatey we left our bags in "secure storage". When we came back in the afternoon one of our bags had been opened and valuuable item stolen. Manager said he spoke to staff and they knew nothing about it. I would not recommend staying here. Thus soured our experience with this hotel. We have never had thus happen before over many hotel stays in Aus or overseas.

Clean hotel

Didn’t realise you needed to put up a sign on the door saying you wanted your room serviced. I’m familiar with putting up a Do Not Disturb sign but didn’t expect a Service Please sign to be needed. There were 3 air conditioning units and they were temperamental. Sometimes they did and didn’t work. Good kitchen facilities but unfortunately the pan was scratched up beyond safe to use. Location was excellent. Very close to trams and although onsite parking was small, I liked that it was locked and onsite.

Clean room, pleasant staff and convenient location.

The rooms are just ok, cheaply renovated. The older gentleman that checked me in on Christmas day lacked any customer service etiquette. No cooked breakfast available, instead they direct you to a burger restaurant! No other on site services available, dont be fooled by "gym close by" etc. Dont expect anything more than a basic room and dont pay anything more than $200/night. You can do a lot better in Melbourne CBD.

The rooms are not ready for us even though check in was 2pm and we went back at nearly 3pm. The staff was still adding the finishing touches to the 2 of the 3 rooms we booked. We requested for baby cot in 1 of the rooms and the staff took a long time to figure how to set up. The cot lacked mattress in the end. The 3 rooms all looked dated. They were also not cleaned well. One of us sneezed continuously upon entering one of the rooms. There were biscuit crumbs on some dining chairs. At least 1 sofa chairs was already damaged when we checked in and not removed. The location was convenient.

Was great would stay again

Location great. Staff were nice. Room was average - carpet stained, tea towel was used, shower screen had huge crack in it, surfaces looked like hadn't been wiped down. Missing whole shutter on window. Unlikely to stay here again considering amount paid for the night.

Such a good location with easy access to the Skybus, the tram and Marvel Stadium. Despite being so central, it's quiet and peaceful. Super comfy bed. We stay here just about every time we come to Melbourne for an event.
