Hides Hotel Cairns

Not family friendly

Often stay at Hides because it is so central. I’ve been staying there for at least 30 years. It’s a bit jaded but ok. I do object to paying about $170 a night and only have the room serviced once in 4 days. No butter at breakfast the last day. But I am fond of the old thing and will continue to patronise her!

You get what you pay for...hotel is in the center of the city with esplanade, eateries and ferry station close by ...but lacks in other areas.

Late check in with no hassles. Close to all facilities and eating spot.

Located centrally in Cairns means walking everywhere is easy. Great hot shower, reasonably comfy bed, ceiling fan to reduce humidity and air con. Television didnt work, even after technician visit. Basic breakfast but seating on balcony was great start to another day in the tropics

Budget hotel, location is not bad, stuff at the front desk not friendly

Don’t stay here. It’s like being in prison. There is nothing “hotel” about it. Dirty room, covered with mould and stains and rust. Bathroom is just disgusting with shower that constantly drips, shower curtain that is disgusting, rust, dirt, hair. Who knows what diseases are in there. A/C may as well not exist. Room is so hot even with whatever ac unit it is turned on and fan on. Beds smell. Extra pillows were given but definitely had not been laundered, smelt dirty and unwashed. Honestly stay away. We were three people staying in a room and one left early to check into the Novotel. The other two were checking out the next day anyway and left early to go sit at the airport. Towels were dirty. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY. It’s just grim, prison like, hot, dirty, stuffy, mouldy and rusty.

Room was comfortable and breakfast was nice n fresh

Personal en la recepcion simplemente no sabe tartar con el pubblico. Inexpertos y no aptos para tartar con el pubblico. El problema es el director del hotel, no sabe elegir el personal. Esas chicas están bien en un Mc Donald o en un call centre, no en un hotel. Son jovenes , no son feas... pero no tienen idea que significa sonreír . Para atender al público la persona tiene que tener voluntad de servir y le tiene que venir espontáneo, en cambio esa gente pareciera que te hace un favor.

The location is excellent. The front staff very helpful. Had issue manager was useless basically said couldn't help. Lady on desk quickly moved us to another room. Solving everything

A/C didn’t work on the first night, Beds aren’t comfy, fire alarm went off.

The hotel is in a great location—the beachfront promenade is within walking distance, as is everything else you might need. For an additional fee, you can rent a parking space in the garage, but there are also parking spots available right outside. The hotel itself could use a bit of a makeover, but it was clean and the air conditioning worked well.

This motel is an average place to stay overall. It’s clearly old and outdated, but it’s generally clean and acceptable for a short visit. The staff are friendly and welcoming, which helps make the stay more pleasant. One of the biggest advantages is the location—it’s within walking distance to shops, restaurants, and other nearby spots. While it could use some updates, it’s a decent option if you’re looking for convenience and friendly service without expecting anything fancy.

Room was average. Air conditioning not working, didn’t cool enough. Carpets in the hallway were dirty.

While it is true that the front desk offered an alternative room, the replacement room was in significantly worse condition than the original. Due to the lack of any acceptable alternatives and the unavailability of other hotels at that time, we had no choice but to remain in the same property despite the unacceptable conditions. The cleanliness and overall hygiene of both rooms were far below acceptable standards. This was not a minor inconvenience—it directly impacted our comfort, health, and overall travel experience. We have clear photographic evidence documenting the poor and unsanitary conditions, which we are prepared to provide upon request. It is also important to note that declining a worse room should not invalidate our complaint. The core issue remains unresolved: the hotel failed to provide a clean, safe, and habitable environment as expected and advertised. Given these circumstances, I am formally requesting a full or partial refund for this stay. The service received did not meet basic hospitality standards, and it is only fair that appropriate compensation is provided. Please review this matter again seriously. I expect a prompt and fair resolution. If needed, I am willing to escalate this issue further. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response. Kind regar

Remote for the TV didn't work.

Bathroom mouldy, hot water could not be turned off, no spoons for coffee, no hairdryer, slow check in, additional charge for parking. Wanted access to balcony from room but was the furthest away from that.
