easy to get ferry，walking to Opera house very much convenient

I’m impressed with staffs, hotel room and all services. I arrived in early morning because of my flight arrival at 6 am and just want to drop off luggages there but a staff hand me a towel for refresh bath! I’m impressed! Hotel is boutique style which is lovely, bathroom is wide and good not far from our room. Valuable for money in the center of Sydney and near main station!

Great location to circular quay and the Rocks area. Rooms good and very clean. Great breakfast. Queen bed very hard mattress.

Fantastic little, neat and homely hotel extremely close to the best of Sydney sights

The hotel is set in an old pub/hotel building with lots of beautiful character and charm. The room was a decent size and lovely and cozy. Even with a lot of noise from crowds and the pub downstairs, the addition of noise cancelling Perspex on the windows, you could barely hear it. The shared bathrooms were always clean and maintained. Breakfast downstairs at the Fortune of War was amazing. All staff at the hotel and pub/restaurant were helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay here again

We had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend this hotel. The location was excellent, making it easy to explore Sydney and access everything we needed. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We arrived earlier than expected, and the receptionist kindly arranged for our room to be serviced as a priority so we could check in as soon as possible, which was greatly appreciated. The restaurant downstairs was also excellent, with great food and a fabulous breakfast to start the day. Overall, the service, facilities, and location exceeded our expectations. We will definitely stay here again the next time we're in Sydney.

Absolutely fabulous location right in the center of the Rocks district. We got on a cruise ship from the hotel and it was an easy walk to the cruise port.

This hotel is absolutely beautiful! I arrived relatively early, and my room was already prepared and clean, saving me from having to walk around until 2pm. The room was gorgeous and comfortable with charming decor and the most beautiful tiles in the bathroom. There is no air con, which can make the room a little humid, but the ceiling fan is pretty efficient. The service of the staff was stunning. This was my first time staying in a hotel on my own as an adult, and I think it was amazing!! The only negative thing is there can be a couple rowdy people out around at night, which is no fault of the hotel, and I still slept fine. As a young adult / couple who only stayed for 2 nights, this hotel was delightful! It's also in the most convenient area for shopping and meals. Thank you for the amazing experience!

Lots of narrow stairs to navigate luggage as the one lift didn't have access to most rooms.The room was not ready at 2pm which was check in time. we arrived at 930am ( told them before that we would be early)we new it was check in at 2 but staff said they would try to get us in earlier but it ended up been even later than stated 2pm.before the room was available to us.We had booked sound proof room which was a joke as this place was extremely noisy until 1245am due to music being played down stairs in pub.Breakfast was good and staff were very nice.Bed was comfortable, bathroom clean, tiniest fridge I've ever seen.aircon good.

Perfectly located, beautifully renovated maintaining their historical charm, very comfortable bedding, amazing food, entertainment and atmosphere at the Fortunes of War hotel that serves the complimentary breakfast. An ideal getaway for adults wanting a relaxing break in Circular Key.

position good but the stairs were a killer

Everything was nice, but they misappropriated things that were left in the fridge by us inadvertently, which were our medicines and went to get them, they told us that the medicine had been thrown out. The Madisen was our insulin because we are diabetic independent. So we don't think much of this place at all.

My wife and I stayed at the Russell for 4 nights and thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were all going out of their way to provide any help needed. Always asking if wanting more. The room was cleaned every day with chocolate turndowns at night. Location was perfect! Lots of activity and close to transportation. Definitely worth money spent for a wonderful time.

Great location for walking around The Rocks area. You can take the train, Light Rail or a ferry from Circular Quay for places further out, like Chinatown, Manly Beach, etc. Res’t & Fortune of War Pub on street level @ hotel. Walk to Opera House, Royal Botanical Gardens, Harbor Bridge. Lots of res’ts, pubs very close by. OPT, 3 for short blocks away for cruisers. We had the Charming Room away from potential noise from front rd.(George St), but we had noise in the small walkway behind the Russell @ nite.

This Hotel is so close to everything. From check in with May , the Bar staff , the Restaurant staff , all were terrific and friendly. A very unique and well run Hotel all in its Heritage layout. Definitely stay again

Great venue

Fabulous small hotel. Bed super comfortable. Based in the best part of Sydney with lots in walking distance. Would stay again without hesitation.

The hotel is located in the busy The Rocks area. This old hotel is well maintained. We stayed overnight to catch a cruise ship and the location was perfect. We used the back exit down the alley to The Nurses Walk for a smoother route to the ship. If you are traveling with lots of luggage ask for a room without stairs. There are lots of stairs as the rooms are split on half levels and down little hallways. Our room was #16 and the lift took us to the 2nd floor and it was just down the hall, same level. There is no air conditioning and it can get quite warm. The overhead ceiling fan helped a great deal. Breakfast was included with our room and it was plentiful, delicious and there were good selections. Service was excellent.

Staff was amazing and friendly. Room were nice size and clean. Breakfast was amazing and finished each night with a cocktail at the bar and also on the rooftop area. Wonderful location and would stay here again.
