I booked last minute but was then concerned by more recent reviews.
Travelling with my wife I had trepidation which proved entirely without foundation as all was absolutely fine.
From the most entirely charming lady on the reception desk to opening the room door it was immediately obvious I had by chance chosen very well.
It's a great looking old country house, lots of character. Perhaps many reviewers want perfection: personally I would suggest soaking up character.
The room warm, bathroom impeccable, all good. One to remember as far a I'm concerned.

I was In the old part and it needs updating badly. Excited when I saw a spa bath in my room but bath was worn around the plug area and not appealing so wasted. Toilet was stained with brown as old. Taps on sink worn and spun round a lot before water came out.

Sadly this time the room left a lot to be desired.
Firstly the room was like a cauldron, with a dormer style window, that could only be open about 5 inches.
Pooped to reception as the television wasn't working, I had fried auto tune and everything (I'm no tech dummy) and no luck
I asked the guy on the desk, he tried and failed to, we did secure a fan though.
I was told that I would get a breakfast thrown in , I did mention straight away that I would be leaving before breakfast started, so I didn't get that offer in the morning
Then on to the shower, it didn't work, and even if it did the shower would be perfect for those who were 4ft 6. No water came out of the shower head so sadly another fail
I did give the hotel chance to answer these issues prior to this review, but got blanked,
So bad review time
Won't be going back

Traveled down late in evening from London
Called on route around 8pm to make sure I could check in around 11pm, no body answered so I left a voice mail with my number, the time I was planning to arrive, my name, booking and a request if there is any issue with me checking in at this time, please call me so I know
NO REPLY, NO CALL BACK, NO RESPONSE
Arrived 11pm no body on site, reception closed, no bell, no contact number for out of hours by reception (another guest told me they used to have a sign with an emergency or out of hours contact on the wall but this has now been removed)
I obviously tried calling the number for the hotel, option reception 5 calls no answer, option for all other inquiries 5 calls no answer…
At no point through booking did this mention there was a closing time for checking in, no part of my itinerary email mentions this, and confirmation email from hotel did not mention this
So I spent money on your hotel and business just to spend the night in my car at the side of a road…

The bathroom was a disgrace. Grubby, poorly maintained, flooring and panels were heavily water damaged. A small leak from wash basin. Decor was grubby. The main bedroom was more like being in a hostel.
Expedia should not be including this facility!

The worst hotel I have ever stayed in! This place is extremely run down, old and filthy. The photos on the this website must be from 50 years ago, as it looks nothing like that! The room was dirty, with cobwebs on the ceiling and windows, thick dust in the wardrobe and someones dirty used tissue still in it. Old fashioned carpet & curtains that are faded with wear and tear. The carpet was dirty with crusty stains and visible dust in the corners. The bathroom was from the 60's, peach bathroom suite with mahogany panels. There was so much limescale on the taps, they were green, with crusty marks in the sink, and in the base of the toilet that it was totally brown. The shower head over the bath had so much limescale that it just dribbled, so totally pointless. The worst part was that they never service my room in the 5 nights that I stayed there! After day 2, I went to reception and complained and asked why my room had not been cleaned, no fresh towels, no rubbish removed, no toilet roll. I also complained at how dirty my room was with cobwebs and dust.The 2 people in reception apologised and said they only clean rooms twice a week. That's disgusting! They handed me 2 toilet rolls and assured me that my room would be cleaned the next day. This never happened. In my whole stay they never cleaned my room or replaced my towels, even though I had requested it. They could not be bothered to offer any customer service. Don't waste your money staying in this horrible place, it's awful!

Rooms were a poor standard, 240 volt cables pull too tight that coulb be a fire hazard waiting to happen.
The bath needs to be scrubbed to make it half decent and the same for the toilet that was a disgrace.

Bed was comfy,unfortunately woken at 2.30am by an argument outside my door,with lots of shouting, threats and swearing. Room was ok,limescale around shower and crack in the bath. No signal on the TV. Breakfast was ok.

The room was very neglected and obviously hadn't been properly cleaned ie dirty window ledges, dust everywhere, bare repairs in the bathroom, remote control needed new batteries, frayed carpet into bathroom - the rooms were nothing like advertised on website and are certainly not worth the £492 we paid for the five nights we were there - only worth at least half of that. I am emailing expedia separately with complaint. We learnt there were only 4 members of staff looking after the hotel and was due to be sold sometime in January. The bar/restaurant did not appear to be open and customers few and far between.

The place was terrible run down and not loved nothing worked in the room there was toilet roll stick in the peep hole in the door the room was shabby no food was being served when it was advertised as being served. Don’t bother staying here

As soon as we drove into the property it looked run down/closed. We saw the lady in the very warm reception who checked our names and gave us a key to one of the outside buildings. While we were walking to there we said to each other what have we done. Entering the room it just smelt old and musty. Layers of dust, cobwebs, dead spiders, bottle tops in the wardrobe and cold. The radiator in the bedroom had the control missing. The bathroom had one but still didnt work. The vanity unit/kettle area was clean and so was the kettle. The bed top sheets were clean.
This place needs abit of money spending on it and a decent cleaner and it could be nice. Such a shame.
Photos in the advert very misleading.
