Va-i-moana Seaside Lodge

If you’re looking for an authentic Samoan experience in an idyllic location, Vaimoana delivers. We stayed one night in an open beach fale and one night in a regular room. The fales share restroom and shower facilities, which is typical, and they were perfectly fine. The regular room had its own facilities. The room was basic but very clean and adequate, and we enjoyed relaxing on the porch which looked out over the water. The beach area is beautiful, with plenty of shade trees and chairs, and a protected cove for swimming. The restaurant is excellent and we had some very good meals there. They change all the table decor for every meal, which is evidence of how they go above and beyond. The restaurant and lounge area are very inviting and spacious. The service was outstanding in every way. The property is well-maintained, and a masseuse from a nearby village came to provide a massage. It is not a high-end resort, but it is beautiful and provided exactly what we were hoping for in an authentic experience. It is a lovely place to stay.

Not worth the trip around the island. Multiple issues that then became too many to not leave a review. We initially emailed the hotel about a transfer and they never responded- when we arrived they blamed a staff member being off sick. This seemed to be the way they worked- always blaming someone or something else. We were asked at check-in if we had any allergies and despite telling them we were gluten free, they didn't provide any suitable breakfast unless we paid extra. We asked about hooks for Mosquito nets- they lied and said they don't have mosquitos. We asked to hire a car or a scooter and they were unhelpful. We asked about the bikes they had advertised and they don't have any. The staff were unhelpful in every aspect of finding out information about the island. Using the shower caused the lights in the bathroom to flicker significantly. The toilet leaked and so they turned off the cistern instead of fixing it. There was rubbish all over the beach and outside the rooms and they had pigs roaming around the resort. No-one attempted to pick up the litter. The pillow was mouldy and when we left a note asking if they could change the bedding they lied about receiving it. Food was shockingly bad and so expensive for the quality- they never seemed to have any fish or coconuts - despite being on an island full of fish and coconuts! It seemed that the only thing available was fried chicken- the type you'd get in a takeaway. Disappointing overall.

The room was great, no mosquitos under the net, lights and sockets all worked, sound of the waves lulled me to sleep.

We stayed in a Fale with a shared bathroom. I don’t know about the male bathrooms but the female toilets were clean but next morning there was so much dead mosquitoes in the hand basin. The shower urgently needs a rebuild. The state was unacceptable. There was moss on the rocks, dead mosquitoes and a feeling of insecurity due to no roof over one end of the shower. 100 % to the staff for being friendly and helpful both reception, bar and breakfast. My other suggestion was to have ceiling fans in your dining area. Enjoyed the fales but a small fan would go well in there when there was no breeze.

Beautiful Spot to relax.

Beautiful property and surroundings, lovely beach and possibility to kayak, use hammocks, snorkel etc. Our room was quite run down though, and a bit too expensive for what it is. No hot water, barely any water from the bathroom tap, all very old materials. It’s ok if it’s 100$ a night but not really 200$.

My family and I, myself, wife and daughter. Have just had a relaxing 3 night stay here at Va i Moana. The Team are the most wonderful ladies, ensuring you had a great stay. If you are looking to have a stay in a traditional style Samoan way, you will love it as we have. Thank you to all of the wonderful Team at Va i Moana. See you all again.

When I arrived they said we don’t use Expedia anymore. So I didn’t have a reservation. The hotel was empty so they could accommodate me, but it shouldn’t be listed on Expedia anymore. The place is cute , restaurant convenient, breakfast good, dinner poor.

Staff are very friendly and want to help

Resort was situated in a beautiful area overlooking the beach, it was picturesque. However very far from main town so be prepared for a long drive. Fridge was not in working condition and french door frame was not conneted to main building properly which caused geckos to enter the room. Overall i really loved it here beds were comfortable and the view was breathtaking.

Amazing place with kind staff that would do anything with a smile.

Amazing place with idyllic views and very clear waters for a wonderful swim. Highly recommend staying in the Sunset Fales only. They have AC for comfort at night and a deck overlooking the water for complete serenity. The hotel stay includes breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was average with just a piece of toast and dinner likewise. From taking to other guests it would appear the food is a hit or miss and the previous night the food was 5 star and the night we stayed below average. Having said that the people working there are so lovely and when we asked if we could buy food they agreed to open up the lunch menu so that we could go to bed satisfied. I highly recommend a night or two here and we look forward to going back in the future.

On arrival the staff were very hospitable and nice ! We loved our beachfront fales, has lovely charm but wouldnt be everyone's cup of tea, very basic accomodation and facilities very tired!!! meals included in price but very bland in the end of 5 day stay!!

Great place, friendly and extremely helpful staff. Breakfast and tea were included in the price - while not outstanding it was really good for what we paid. Activities are offered daily - things like a demo on how you make coconut milk from scratch, walk to the local village etc. You will need some small money to give donations for some of these things. Thursday nights are Fia Fia nights (pardon the spelling this may not be right!!) anyway, traditional food is cooked and served, the staff put on a show that is amazing - if you're going trying to be a this place on a Thursday.

We had a lovely time here at Vaimoana and the food was the best we had in Savai'i. Hearty and home-cooked style meals. The cocktails were also cheap and delicious. The sea is great for swimming at high tide and there is a range of activities on offer by the hotel.

Wonderful staff,beautiful location. Loved being able to experience the local culture. Great breakfasts.Didn't enjoy set menu so much- need some choices. Very relaxing. Our bathroom not very clean. Entrance to hotel very rough- needs some attention. First impressions very important. Overall, a great experience, though.

First stay we had in standard room which is really to small for two people. Also the shower was leaking so the floor in bathroom was wet all the time. Second stay on our way back was in superior room. It was really spaceous, with huge balcony, separate living area and separate bedroom. I liked it a lot. But the shower was leaking again and floors were wet. I think the problem with the building is, there is no maintanance. I think they just leave everything as it is without updates.

The service was really friendly and the food was delicious. Definitely recommend the Va-I-Moana Seaside resort.

Tourism there is pretty new, they expect you to spend more money every day, and you can see that not doing so is a problem. Taxis are horible on this island hasseling, pushing and expenssive (150$), and they are getting angry pretty fast, better plan ahead and rent a car or pay directly the hotel, or get the local bus, fun but could be crowded. Sceneries are good, and it's quiet, overall a good place.
