Scalloway Hotel

We were weathered in unexpectantly and staff very kind and helpful in making sure we had rooms.

Loves our stay, staff were friendly and helpful. Bed/room comfortable, bathroom clean. Dining was excellent, good breakfast and dinners. Would highly recommend and stay there again Thankyou.

I really liked the hotel and it was very quiet for my stay. Ear plugs were provided so I am guessing it can get noisy from the bar at times! My room (a single) was small but I liked it. The mirror in the bathroom (a lovely big mirror) was badly cracked - 2 long cracks - but not over the main area above the sink so it didnt bother me particularly. The room and bathroom were generally clean, though there was a fairly small amount of mould on the grout in the shower. Breakfast was good, though I didnt have a cooked breakfast, just continental, which I enjoyed, with both Regular and Oat Milk provided. The room was warm with a good heater andna heated towel rail. In all a very pleasant stay

Everyone at the hotel was concerned for our comfort and well-being, they were very flexible when our travel plans were unexpectedly extended, the food was delicious, and it was an excellent base to explore Shetland. Would highly recommend!

The staff were excellent even through a period when the local wireless network went down. the staff took this in their stride, Gwen the owner was excellent, Cally was doing a great job similarly to chris and all the staff went out of their way to provide an excellent service

Fantastic staff who were incredibly helpful. Very good sleep and walkable to everything in Scalloway. Car required for daytrips. Hood parking outside the hotel and a short walk away.

Lovely hotel, Staff very friendly. Room very clean and looked newly done up. Comfy bed. Good choice for breakfast continental and cooked. Had a nice evening meal too. Plenty free parking around hotel. Quite area to walk about, beautiful scenery. Scalloway museum worth a visit.

Highly disappointed given the price and previous reviews. The room was small, very hot and smelt awful. Such a bad smell in fact, we paid to move to another hotel, despite having pre-paid for this one. The bathroom was superficially clean but there was black mould growing on the sealant around the bath, the shower head was brown/scaly, the cold water was hot and the tap leaked. There was a noise that sounded like a washing machine going most of the time, also vibrating the floor. The one member of staff tried to do many tasks but too much for one person so people were waiting at breakfast or to check out etc. There are no cleaning services on a weekend so no other rooms available to move to. We travel a lot and sadly it is the worst hotel we’ve stayed in for many years.

Our stay in Scalloway was mostly pretty good. Our hotel room could only be cooled by open windows and outside, right under our open windows, bar patrons gathered at tables for a smoke, and frequently loud conversation. The smoke and noise were drawn into our room through the open windows. Although the hotel asks smokers use their back porch, there are still many who smoke in front. My recommendation is to avoid sea view rooms in summer if noise and smoke will bother you. Also, their coffee machine was broken and the substitute coffee maker made terrible coffee.

Our stay was pleasant. Staff was courteous and friendly. The room was clean and spacious. Its an old building but well kept. Nothing fancy but enough for what we needed. We were out all day & went back to hotel to sleep. Walls are thin like other people mentioned, so u could hear yr next door neighbors tv. It didn't bother us, cause it was on while ours was too. There is a bar across the road so on the weekend people coming and going can be heard, but then again, we had our windows constantly open, so that could also be the case why we heard them. The hotel is aware of that & provided ear plugs which we used. Staff did our laundry when we asked them, folded it & placed it in our room. For me as someone who travels is to look for a clean & safe place, and the Scalloway hotel was that place.

Excellent, friendly staff!

Could not get the heating to work, so I was cold the whole night. The toilet stunk od sewage. Breakfast was included in my booking, but it was non existent. Extremelly basic breakfast. They had bread, but nothing to put on the bread (only butter & jam). No ham, no cheese, nothing at all. There was no foid at all. No eggs, bacon, sausages, baked beans, nothing at all. They had some plain croissants & pain aux chocolat. Drinks only 2 juices, tea & coffee. They had all the ingredients I mentioned above, but guess what ?! You have to pay to actually have the breakfast, so all the ingredients I mentioned above that are supposed to be part of a hotel breakfast (at least in the UK), were payable. What's the point of "Breakfast included in the booking", when aI still have to pay for the breakfast again when I got to the breakfast room ?! Well, I decided I wouldn't pay for anything else, so I just ate whatever was available as part of the "FREE" breakfast. This room cost me around £150 GBP for 1 night. I just felt ripped off to be honest. So, I decided to check out and go to the airport to eat some food there. Nice, comfortable hotel with friendly staff, but I personally wouldn't recommend.

Lovely location on the West Coast but only 20 minutes away from Lerwick. Friendly staff and a clean room with a sea view. Family run who appreciate their guests

Cracking stay again - rooms fair size & clean with comfy bed & a decent shower. Food down in the bar is tremendous & really well priced, quality pint of Guinness & the very pleasant & attentive staff were great. Only downside was the wifi wasn’t working. Will stay again undoubtedly!

A lot of good, but struggled with some availability eg a chef to cook food in the evening and some things at breakfast. Staff generally tried very hard to please.

The bed was too short. the duvet was too thin (cold) and too short. The wifi didn't work. There were no blinds to screen out morning light at 04.00 hrs. The window didn't shut. The coffee machine was unattended and so was not able to produce a cup before my departure. No one aksed me how my stay was!
