SpionKop Lodge

A historic gem with friendly staff, but the rooms are very worn, and I couldn’t shake the feeling of being transported back to the colonial era — a vibe I’m not fond of for many reasons. So overall, the place was not for me at all.

Our stay at Spioenkop was excellent, the staff so friendly and helpful. Food was on time and delicious. Well done to a great team. We will be back

Fantastic stay here while visiting the Boer war sites in the area with Raymond. The premises is a renovated historic farm from the war era, retaining as much of the original detail as possible. The bar is cosy and reeks of history while the dining area is a modern addition. I stayed in the old house, which has been converted into a number of en-suite bedrooms. Nature surrounds you in the beautiful grounds and the staff were friendly and attentive. Meals were simple but filling and fantastic. Raymond is incredibly knowledgeable and the tours he gives are full of expert detail. Although I had read a number of books about the war, actually visiting the sites on and around this property really brought home the tragedy and futility of the events. Thanks to Raymond and the staff for looking after me and showing me around!

Great stay in a lodge in beautifull nature, and with a friendly staff, and a great manager

It was quiet and just what we wanted. Food options were good. Great service from the staff.

The accommodation was pretty average and I would rate them 3 stars, definitely not 4 stars. Info from Alistair and Lynette was extremely helpful, thank you

I stayed one night at Spion Kop Lodge en route to Isandlwana. The staff were very welcoming, I was the only diner that evening in the restaurant and got excellent service. I loved the many historical artifacts and pictures decorating the lodge.

Very difficult to find if you have no internet in the car The GPS doesn t know the place. Had to ask people in petrol stations. But nice place!

Great place! Had slight problem with the cabin we were going to stay in, but the management handled it very gracefully and without a problem. Overall great environment, beautiful view, friendly people, comfortable spaces.

A visit to Spionkop Lodge is so enlightening because of the history buried in the area delivered so enchantingly by the hosts. It's a true oasis bang in the middle of an African bush. The cottages however are a bit secluded for my liking, and after dark you really wonder if you are completely safe. But my fears proved unfounded because the surroundings are as tranquil as they come.

Lodge war nur als Zwischenstopp gedacht. Ist jedoch wert, wiederzukommen. Freundlich, aufmerksam, unterschiedliche Zimmertypen, Frühstück OK, Abendessen möglich, zwei Hauptgerichte zur Auswahl; für Selbstversorger Küche in den Cabanas. Netter kleiner Pool.

まず言いたいのは、夕食が大変おいしかったということです。スープ、メイン、デザート。食後にチーズが出てきました。その辺のレストランでは食べられないレベルのおいしさでした。 もともとセルフケータリングの部屋を予定していたのですが、ダブルブッキングでキッチンのない部屋へ急遽変更となり、その対応として食事をお願いしたわけですが、それが思いの外おいしくてびっくりしました。不幸中の幸いでした。 ロッジの周りは緑が多く、敷地はよく整備された芝生が広がっていました。小さいプールがあるくらいで、何があるわけではないので、とにかくゆっくりしたい方にはよいと思います。 立地としては、１番近いのは、カテドラルピークで約１時間、ロイヤルナタールが約１．５時間、ジャイアントキャッスルとゴールデンハイランドは約２時間かかるような場所です。 部屋については、鍵が使えないところや、茶色いお湯や水が出てきたりと、気持ちよく使えたかというとそうではなかったかなという感じです。だいぶ年期があるので多少不具合も出てきている感じです。（私が泊まった部屋に関してですが） サービスについては、本当はよいのかもしれません。しかし、私が泊まったのがクリスマスだったことで、オーナーさん方もお休みしていたのかなという感じです。２６日になると従業員の方が増えていたので、南アフリカでクリスマスにサービスを求めてもいけないのかもしれません。ということで、サービスについてはよい印象はありません。実際のところは分かりません。

A very comfortable place despite the temps in the mid to upper 90's(no A/C in the bedroom. but very dry humidity and a gentle wind kept us comfortable.

heerlijke locatie, echter het verblijf is erg verouderd, slechte douche, koud in de winterperiode. Eten in het restaurant is super.

We spent two nights at SpionKop Lodge during the midst of a two week trip to South Africa. Unfortunately our flight was delayed by several hours coming into Durban which resulted in our getting to SpionKop Lodge quite late. We kept in contact via phone and there were people waiting for us even with our late arrival. All of the staff was very helpful. The cottage we were assigned was quite large - well beyond our expectations. The beds should be replaced - we could feel the springs in several of the beds. Our breakfast was quite nice, but was not included - that would have definitely been our preference. We did a Battle site tour our last morning through the lodge and that was excellent! We spent a day hiking in Royal Natal National Park - it was about an hour drive from the lodge. A beautiful location, but it is necessary to have a car when staying here if you want to do anything besides sit.

A wonderful peaceful location in a family run lodge. Plenty to see and do in the surrounding area, just wish we could have stayed longer

Peace and quiet for city people. Lovely surroundings, friendly hosts and roomy accommodation. The children enjoyed the pool and we also had a nice dinner.
