We had a short trip to Ella and booked Hotel Onrock for one night. The hotel is at the top of a steep hill and was a bit tricky to find but once we found it, I could not fault anything about the hotel. It was very clean and well maintained. The staff were all very friendly and made sure we were comfortable. The room was extremely spacious and the view from our balcony was breathtaking. The highlight for me was the restaurant. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel and both meals were very tasty and had a variety of cuisines on offer. All the kitchen staff were very caring and went to a lot of effort to make sure we enjoyed our meals.

Excellent. Clean and comfortable with magnificent views. They are building an infinite pool on the roof that should be ready in a few months. The views will be even more spectacular. Breakfast was also very good. Interesting, fresh and tasty. The staff were very attentive. I would happily come back

Fint rent og pent. Ok mat og veldig god service. Plassering er noen hundre meter opp fra Main Street. Og med opp så mener jeg opp. Vi gikk opp denne veien på ca 4 minutter så det var helt greit. Belønningen er ro og en helt fantastisk utsikt.

The hotel staff were extremely friendly and courteous. The room was ok, clean, small and basic. The location could be a big problem for some as situated around 200m up a very very steep hill often wet, which cars and tuk tuks also found difficult. There are some beautiful views although not from our side if the hotel - just unfinished hotels. We had breakfast which was well presented but basic - we stayed 3 nights but went into the centre for evening meals. Lots to see if the weather allows - 1 night too many for us as it was so rainy in mid November. Overall very nice hotel and staff.

Das Haus ist wirklich charmant…..einfach aber liebenswert….und es ist alles da was man benötigt. Das Zimmer ist, auch für europäischen Anspruch…blitzsauber. Der Ausblick vom Zimmer grandios. Das Personal ist äußerst freundlich und hilfsbereit und liebenswert. Jeder versuchte uns den Aufenthalt so angenehm wie möglich zu gestalten. Wir können das Haus wirklich sehr empfehlen.

The location of the hotel is up a steep hill with no lights when the sunsets, so therefore as a single female traveller it makes it difficult to get down to the main road of the town. The food was mediocre and disappointing when it came to a curry which was potato in water and not a curry sauce. The bathroom is dated and the toilet seats do not fit correctly. The room was not clean and the bedding and pillows need to be washed as they were very sweaty and smelly and made it uncomfortable to sleep. Additionally the kitchen staff make a lot of noise at night and in the early morning

Fint, lyst værelse med balkon. Det er meget lyt på værelset ift støj fra gangen. Morgenmad er kedelig og restaurant er ucharmerende. Hotellet ligger i gåafstand til hovedgaden. Fint til enkelt overnatning, hvis man som os kom med toget fra Kandy til Ella

We had an excellent stay in that property (3nights March 2025) It located on the hill so the views from the balcony are spectacular. Still just a few steps from the center of town. Very good breakfast with lots of options. Exceptional stuff, especially the manager who was very informative, helpful and kind. The only down was the bathroom which I'd say needed some renovations and the noise coming from the construction going on at the front of the hotel but I understand at some point they have to do it. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in my life.. They are charging 200$ per night and There is no hot water in the room. Rooms were totally different than advertised.. Towels are very dirty, breakfast is so bad. It was horrible stay , waste of money!!

Wir hatten für eine Nacht das Deluxe-Zimmer mit Gartenblick. Das Zimmer war sehr schön und sauber. Allerdings schauten wir statt in einen Garten auf eine Baustelle!!! Schrecklich… das Frühstück war gut und lecker, allerdings gibt es keine Möglichkeit draußen zu sitzen. Also wer Plastikblumen und Fahrstuhlmusik mag ist hier richtig. Die Lage ist super. Man wohnt ruhig und ist schnell auf der belebten Hauptstraße.

Great for a short stay in Ella - located very centrally although up a hill so difficult for a car to get up - they have an on-site tuk tuk to help with luggage up the hill. Lovely, modern bathroom and comfortable bed. Staff very accommodating.

Old and tired hotel, minimal breakfast options and hot food was all barely lukewarm. We had no hot water, shower wasn’t even lukewarm it was cold which was an issue that we reported immediately to staff who checked and said that was as good as it gets! Staff were all very pleasant, polite and friendly.

Ella is all hills - so it’s a 6 minute steep walk to Onrock or 1 minute drive but that’s better than almost every other place. It’s upscale for Ella though short of 4 star luxury. Breakfast excellent. It’s fun and convenient and the 2 of us from USA strongly recommend.

We booked a room with garden view and we got one with a horrible view on the back (the front has view on the mountains) where there is no garden whatsoever but the skeleton of a broken building. I cannot believe they sell these rooms at such price with such an ugly view.

Das Haus ist wirklich charmant…..einfach aber liebenswert….und es ist alles da was man benötigt. Das Zimmer ist, auch für europäischen Anspruch…blitzsauber. Der Ausblick vom Zimmer grandios. Das Personal ist äußerst freundlich und hilfsbereit und liebenswert. Jeder versuchte uns den Aufenthalt so angenehm wie möglich zu gestalten. Wir können das Haus wirklich sehr empfehlen.

Excellent. Clean and comfortable with magnificent views. They are building an infinite pool on the roof that should be ready in a few months. The views will be even more spectacular. Breakfast was also very good. Interesting, fresh and tasty. The staff were very attentive. I would happily come back

The location of the hotel is up a steep hill with no lights when the sunsets, so therefore as a single female traveller it makes it difficult to get down to the main road of the town. The food was mediocre and disappointing when it came to a curry which was potato in water and not a curry sauce. The bathroom is dated and the toilet seats do not fit correctly. The room was not clean and the bedding and pillows need to be washed as they were very sweaty and smelly and made it uncomfortable to sleep. Additionally the kitchen staff make a lot of noise at night and in the early morning

Fint rent og pent. Ok mat og veldig god service. Plassering er noen hundre meter opp fra Main Street. Og med opp så mener jeg opp. Vi gikk opp denne veien på ca 4 minutter så det var helt greit. Belønningen er ro og en helt fantastisk utsikt.

Fint, lyst værelse med balkon. Det er meget lyt på værelset ift støj fra gangen. Morgenmad er kedelig og restaurant er ucharmerende. Hotellet ligger i gåafstand til hovedgaden. Fint til enkelt overnatning, hvis man som os kom med toget fra Kandy til Ella

We had an excellent stay in that property (3nights March 2025) It located on the hill so the views from the balcony are spectacular. Still just a few steps from the center of town. Very good breakfast with lots of options. Exceptional stuff, especially the manager who was very informative, helpful and kind. The only down was the bathroom which I'd say needed some renovations and the noise coming from the construction going on at the front of the hotel but I understand at some point they have to do it. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in my life.. They are charging 200$ per night and There is no hot water in the room. Rooms were totally different than advertised.. Towels are very dirty, breakfast is so bad. It was horrible stay , waste of money!!

Wir hatten für eine Nacht das Deluxe-Zimmer mit Gartenblick. Das Zimmer war sehr schön und sauber. Allerdings schauten wir statt in einen Garten auf eine Baustelle!!! Schrecklich… das Frühstück war gut und lecker, allerdings gibt es keine Möglichkeit draußen zu sitzen. Also wer Plastikblumen und Fahrstuhlmusik mag ist hier richtig. Die Lage ist super. Man wohnt ruhig und ist schnell auf der belebten Hauptstraße.

Nice room, clean and very accessible to the Main Street. Good view of the waterfall and mountain from our deck but the decks were not private at all!! Easy place to stay!

Great for a short stay in Ella - located very centrally although up a hill so difficult for a car to get up - they have an on-site tuk tuk to help with luggage up the hill. Lovely, modern bathroom and comfortable bed. Staff very accommodating.

Old and tired hotel, minimal breakfast options and hot food was all barely lukewarm. We had no hot water, shower wasn’t even lukewarm it was cold which was an issue that we reported immediately to staff who checked and said that was as good as it gets! Staff were all very pleasant, polite and friendly.

Ella is all hills - so it’s a 6 minute steep walk to Onrock or 1 minute drive but that’s better than almost every other place. It’s upscale for Ella though short of 4 star luxury. Breakfast excellent. It’s fun and convenient and the 2 of us from USA strongly recommend.

We booked a room with garden view and we got one with a horrible view on the back (the front has view on the mountains) where there is no garden whatsoever but the skeleton of a broken building. I cannot believe they sell these rooms at such price with such an ugly view.
