The Cubes Ella

Very friendly staff, good sized room with all facilities. Good views (a bit of construction but not bad). Breakfast varied and fresh. A short (500SLR) Tuk-Tuk ride to the centre of town.

The room is fab with a partial view of the 9 arches, the staff are lovely and the breakfast was amazing. The cube is a little bit outside of Ella via is reachable by TukTuk. Would recommend a stay in the cubes.

Der Ort am Hang mit Blick auf die Hügel ist sehr schön - auch, weil das offene Haus und der Essensbereich sehr harmonisch und mit Naturdesign sehr gemütlich ist. Das Zimmer ist sehr groß und der Service war einfach super! Wir können von dort mit dem tuktuk zum little Admms Peak (die riesige Hängeschaukel ist super), nach Ella City und hoch zum neuen, sehr beeindruckenden Tempel fahren - die Fahrt ist ein bisschen abenteuerlich, aber die Fahrer sind erfahren im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes.

I couldn't say enough good things about The Cubes Ella. We had originally planned to stay for one night, but ended up extending to three as we loved it so much. The rooms are spacious, with nice design touches and extremely comfortable beds. The breakfast options are delicious and the service is excellent. The staff really makes the place, we felt so well looked after. A few shout-outs for the people who made our stay special: Rishard, the Manager, who is always up for a chat and makes sure you're happy; Primal, the Chef who's also a guide and can arrange many things (like the driver who took us back to Colombo), and our TukTuk driver Amal, who showed us all around town and was very kind and considerate. Ella itself is a wonderfully vibrant town with lots of things to do and see, great food options, and beautiful nature. I definitely recommend Ella and if you're visiting, to stay at The Cubes.

The staff were so incredible, the rooms were beautiful and clean, air conditioning worked great and the food was amazing! Great location as well, not on the main strip which was a nice break from the noise

This is not a 4 star hotel. It is probably 2+ stars. It also had significant building work commencing at 8am til around 6:30pm. The room was tired, elements looked to be patched up. The hotel is trying to lunch above its wait but things are low quality (robes, bathroom fittings, attention to detail). Our room was full of small flies when we arrived (typical in Ella but no attempt had been made to prevent). The patio double doors when closed and locked have large gaps to allow them in. Our shower gel dispenser had not been filled and was empty. The breakfast menu had to be ordered the night before and was extremely limited. Essentially eggs and toast. No orange juice for me example. The staff are friendly, we discovered the hotel advertised itself as 3 star not 4 star like Hotels.com. It is also a hostel. The vibe fits that as a hostel with rooms. Large parts of the hotel were under construction.

Had a truly wonderful stay at this beautiful hilly, mountain-side hotel. The setting was serene and refreshing, but what stood out most was the exceptional hospitality from every member of the staff warm, attentive, and always ready to help. The breakfast was another highlight, with a wide variety of delicious options that made every morning special. A perfect blend of comfort, scenery, and genuine care. Highly recommended. Please work on your parking though.

The host at the hotel could literally not have done any more for us. Incredibly helpful, if a little formidable, Primal was an excellent host. The room itself was very nice and the hotel was lovely. Ordinarily the location would be amazing, I’m sure, but currently (July 2025) there is building work going on less than 100 meters from our balcony. We were there over the weekend and it went on til 5pm on both days. It wasn’t particularly noisy but there was no privacy at all. We did not use the balcony that we had been looking forward to and we kept the curtains closed the whole time. I understand that this is not the fault of the host or hotel but I feel we should have been warned and given the option to stay elsewhere. The hotel was 5 minutes to Ella - 500lkr in tuktuk. The host also arranged our transfer to Mirissa with a Yala safari half way. This was amazing and although a little more expensive than gyg it was private which was well worth it. As vegans they were also very accommodating to our dietary requirements.

Wir hatten zuerst beim Empfang einen schlechten Eindruck da wir ziemlich in unser Zimmer gehetzt wurden. Die mitarbeiter wurden aber die nächsten Tage sehr herzlich und haben uns sehr gut umsorgt. Das Frühstück mit dem Ausblick wurde hervorragend präsentiert und man hat sich alle Mühe gegeben das wir uns wohl fühlen. Die Zimmer sind „okay“ der Zustand leider etwas heruntergekommen. Für europäische Standards Gewöhnungs bedürftig. Man muss in Sri Lanka Abstriche machen aber wird dafür von lieben Menschen und einem Lächeln belohnt und empfangen.

We enjoyed our stay at The Cubes, it was a few minutes out of Ella which meant it was a peaceful escape from the bustling town and an easy tuk tuk ride into town. The scenery and views around the hotel were lovely. Service was helpful and friendly and we enjoyed the breakfast. Our room was large and the bed very comfortable with a lovely balcony.

Sehr schönes Hotel mit stylisch eingerichteten Zimmern und tollem Blick ins Grüne von unserer Terrasse. Das beste sri-lankische Essen auf unserer Reise und sehr zuvorkommendes Personal. Man ist eher im Tal gelegen, sodass man schnell in Ella Town ist (von unserem anderen Hotel oben am Berg hat es 20 min mit dem TukTuk gedauert), aber dennoch sehr ruhig und im Grünen. Sehr empfehlenswert .

Everything at The Cubes was excellent… the peaceful location, away from the bustle of Ella town, the helpful and friendly staff, the room was first class and the food (dinner and breakfast) was fantastic.

The Cubes is a modern clean hotel with comfortable beds and amazing views. The service provided by the team is fantastic and they will do and arrange anything to make your stay enjoyable. The hotel is out of town and is very quiet. Nice if you want to get away from the buzz of Ella. It’s a short Tuk Tuk ride away, which again the team will organise (500lkr each way). We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast there as well and would thoroughly recommend the hotel.

I had an absolutely wonderful stay at The Cubes Ella. The rooms are lovely, with Kool artwork and cosy lighting for the evening. The view from my balcony was also amazing. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly, anything you needed help with they were there straight away. The breakfast is delicious, definitely I recommend to try the Sri Lankan and Continental Western options. The hotel is about 8mins from Ella town by Tuk Tuk, the hotel arranged these for you very easily and they appear in moments. Area around the hotel is peaceful and perfect. If I visit Ella again I’ll definitely be staying here.
