Our first ten minutes were not good, whilst the doorman was charming and helpful, the receptionist was dour and curt, unable to make eye contact, no smile, it didn’t fill us with enthusiasm for our stay. We left our bags because we knew we were too early for our room.
On returning at three we were met by the lovely Karen who welcomed us and for the rest of her time with us worked above and beyond to make us happy. I must add we made no mention of our original treatment.
We found ourselves in a room adjoining another, the doors to both were unlocked, Karen sorted this immediately.
At eight thirty, we realised that the crying infant in the adjacent room meant that we were in for a sleepless night. Again I approached Karen, she found an alternative room of the same standard and helped move us to it, even, along with the porter, separating the bed in to twins to accommodate us.
Excellent, old school, service that one would expect from a five start hotel.
What we hadn’t realised until the following day, was the noisier than normal air conditioning which we had tried to switch off and couldn’t, was in fact a huge industrial duct stationed right outside the window, obscuring any view of the outside world and resonating its industrial drone throughout the night, not the best end to a strange experience!
Our breakfast was excellent in both content and service, as was our checkout , once again by a considerate and charming receptionist who secured our bags for our return.
