We had booked a stay at this property as part of a longer trip, but had to cancel everything due to a sudden family emergency. Every other hotel on our itinerary, as well as the airline, showed some flexibility, either a refund or a voucher for a future stay. This property was the only one that refused any accommodation at all.
I want to be fair: the booking was made through a third-party site, and the property is fully within its rights to enforce a strict cancellation policy. I’m not disputing that. What was disappointing was the tone of the response. Repeated requests for even a partial refund or a credit toward a future visit were met with the same scripted “policy” line, with no acknowledgment of the circumstances and very little warmth in the exchange.
For a Relais & Châteaux property, a brand whose whole identity is built around hospitality and personal care, I expected at least some attempt to engage with the situation rather than a flat, repeated refusal. It left the impression that revenue mattered more than the guest relationship, especially given the booking would likely be resold for the same dates anyway.
The property itself may well be lovely, and I can’t speak to the in-stay experience. But if you’re booking through a third party, go in with clear eyes: don’t expect any leniency if your plans change, no matter the reason.
Personally, we will be avoiding this Group for all future travels.
