Worst hotel experience of my life

Just great

Front of house staff were exceptional. My booking hadn’t been printed for them but it was quickly resolved. Room was cold and staff very promptly provided a plug in radiator for us. Overall clean and pleasant smelling. Bed was a bit soft for our liking and the bathroom blind had to be down when toileting or showering as the glass is not frosted. TV made a weird buzzing noise all night so had to be unplugged. Parking is convenient and secure and a bargain at £4/night. Will definitely consider staying again.

Always enjoy staying here. Splendid room, spacious and comfortable. Building itself is historic. Breakfast was very good and worth having, not least for the magnificence of the surroundings. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent.

Wasn't told that breakfast not included and would cost £19. Car park £4 extra. Was told on arrival that music would be played in the evening in courtyard outside window until 11pm. Music was very very loud and so loud I couldn't hear the tv. People in courtyard late at night after music finished were noisy.

This is a gem of a hotel! Historical, dating back to the 13th century with a long list of famous people who stayed in the inn. Smallish - so it has small town feel - lots of locals stopping by for tea. Very friendly and experienced staff. Great food, the rooms were very comfortable and well appointed. Easy to get to and great location. I would happily stay here again!

My stay was due to my mum being at the end stage of her life and the staff showed compassion for my situation. They were helpful and understanding.

Lovely house and room, very clean, hosts were really nice and gave great advice on places to visit. It is a beautiful part of the country and this is an ideal base to explore.

For medical reasons my husband and I need single beds. The original booking provided this but on the first floor. My husband has many serious health issues including heart problems. On explaining the dilemma, coupled with the fact that we live in a bungalow and don't really do stairs, I understand some calls were made which culminated in us being able to use the ground-floor accessibility room without causing anyone else a problem. It suited our needs perfectly. We didn't feel we were being a nuisance, in fact, it came over as perfectly normal for guests needs to be accommodated if possible! So refreshing in this day and age. Lovely atmosphere which was particularly nice as the reason for our visit was not a happy one and on returning to the hotel you couldn't help but feel calm. ALL staff were so friendly and helpful, including our room cleaner. My husband needs to take his time in the mornings and she said she would service two other rooms before returning to us. By then we had left for the day. So thoughtful, and not a hint of us being made to feel awkward. The building is very old and it's interesting how it's been adapted. The whole hotel was extremely clean. The food was devine!! And the picture in the Bistro gave me hours of happy research!!

Room was comfortable,nicely decorated A bit of a hike from reception.Bathroom was excellent for an old building very clean and plenty of toiletries. Niceclean towels too.

Stayed here a few times when visiting family. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Breakfast is amazing, really sets you up for the day. Living in the US you don't get breakfast like this. The only thing I would like to see is the amenities in the bathroom more eco friendly. Liquid hand soap as opposed to a bar. Some hotels even have the dispensers in the showers. This would have been handy for our shower as you had to put the shower gel on the floor. Coffee, not used to making this with a kettle but its' fine. The court yard now has seating which really looks lovely. Love the interior of the hotel, a very trendy feel which mixes well with such a beautiful building. Over all we would highly recommend this hotel if visiting the area.

Nice last minute over night stay. Friendly staff. Room clean, slightly old decor however in keeping with the building. Bed was very comfortable.

Perfect location for town. Lots of old charm and helpful staff. The room was very spacious but where it falls down is the lack of air conditioning or fans as the room does gets warm and some of the sash windows won't open . The 4pm check is also very late for what I'd expect these days.You can check in earlier but it's £10 per hour which is excessive ... oh and another £4.50 for carparking so there's a few more charges to consider.

Communal areas were lovely and the breakfast was nice, the staff were also very friednly. The room, however, was small and didnt feel clean at all, hairs not belonging to myself in the bed sheets and all over the towels, the taps were all broken, the bathroom fan was so loud, the dressing table felt like it was about to collapse. The rooms definitely needed updating and cleaning. The car park at the rear is defintley a bonus.
