Everything was super. Only thing was a bad smell as you go up the stairs. I was on top floor and stairwells got worse as you went up but not in rooms. It is very old!

Proper shower would have been useful

The hotel is beautiful and full of character, and the historic building is wonderfully decorated. However, I don’t feel the overall experience justified the price. The room was comfortable, but there were several issues that need attention. The shower water pressure was very low, the TV only had local channels with no streaming options, and the room became very warm with limited ventilation. The hairdryer in the laundry room was also broken. My biggest disappointment was that dogs are only allowed in the rooms and not in the restaurant or pub. As a dog owner, this meant I couldn’t make full use of the hotel’s facilities. Overall, a lovely building, but I think some modernisation and maintenance improvements are needed to match the price point.

Felt like a fairytale to live in history for the night. Every nook and cranny - and there are lots, was interesting to me. Breakfast was fantastic. Was disappointed by the menu options for dinner.

I absolutely loved my stay at this hotel! The historic building is incredibly unique and full of character. We stayed in a top-floor room, which offered beautiful views. The best part? The bathroom had an extra door/window that opened directly out onto the rooftop! I know it’s technically a fire escape, but it made the experience so special and memorable.Also, the breakfast was outstanding. The food was so fresh, and it was honestly the best English Breakfast I’ve ever had in the UK. Highly recommended!💜

Expedia didn t mention that dogs were not allowed anywhere in the hotel apart from the rooms. The manager ended up allowing us to have breakfast in the room as well as a cooked breakfast which is not allowed normally in the room. The breakfast was ordinary. We asked for missing cups and never got them. The shampoo and conditioner bottles were not replaced in the bathroom on the second day and the cleaning was obviously fairly basic as we found a tablet (medecine) under the chest of drawers. The staff was friendly and the hotel is quirky but very overpriced for what it is. The Mermaid Street is quiet and like a picture from a postcard with no cars parked on the street. The weather was bad so the bar was filled with people sheltering from the rain which meants the residents could not find a seat. Would not recommend especially if you have a dog

The room was small but perfectly formed. Overall it is important to remember how old this building is and how much effort goes into maintaining it. It is a real experience, great use of space, the staff were excellent, breakfasts kept you going all day. Parking a challenge

Lovely stay, will book again.

Me and my partner stayed at the Mermaid in over the May Bank holiday. We stayed in room 19, which was a great size and clean. Staff were really friendly and breakfast was very tasty. Would definitely recommend this hotel when staying in Rye.

It’s a beautiful hotel in the very center of Rye, fantastic historical building. Unfortunately, the rooms are not too well maintained. This said, we really enjoyed the stay, the restaurant (great dinner), breakfast was superb. Hotel has a parking on site, which is very rare in Rye.

Fascinating place to stay with so much character! Great breakfast with beautiful fresh spring flowers on the table. Flooring could benefit from an update in room but all very clean, and was a lovely room if a bit creepy! 😀 Dean on reception deserves a special mention as he is a credit to the hotel!

This is an ancient, historic hotel. Be mindful of the fact that you are staying here more for the character and historical significance then for the comfort. Stairways are small and steep and parking - went available at all - is challenging. That said, however, the staff is very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our one night stay.

Really an old and interesting place. I loved it.

There was a good selection at the Breakfast buffet and the cooked breakfasts were delicious. I particularly recommend the Scottish smoked salmon with scrambled eggs. The room was clean. The hand shower performed badly, I found it a faff to get the temperature right and the water pressure was very poor. With no shower curtain the floor became very wet. The creaking floorboards wer atmospheric but not conducive to a good sleep especially when neighbours next door and above got up several times during the night to visit the bathroom. A rather sullen young man was asked to show me to my room but he didn’t immediately take my luggage until I asked for assistance. This is a very old building with steep narrow stairs. There was some initial confusion at the bar when I ordered an Aperol with soda, no Prosecco. The rest of the staff on reception and in the restaurant were friendly and helpful.

Such a unique place to stay. So much history and character to the hotel. Staff were very friendly and food was fantastic. Would highly recommend anyone to stay here

What a stunning place steeped in history. From the beautiful exterior to the historical interior, everything was wonderful and authentic. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and the service was top notch. We ate dinner in the restaurant and the food was great, finishing in the fabulous bar area with the enormous fireplace complete with hidden priest-hole. If you're looking for some ancient and typically British surroundings then you couldn't go wrong with The Mermaid in Rye.

A beautiful hotel. Our room was lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful. The ability to reserve a charging point for our EV was a lifesaver! Food here is amazing, Make sure you book a table for dinner!
