Lovely atmosphere and live entertainment will be returning

We made an independent booking with an agent. We were not aware that this hotel caters predominantly for coach parties. There were around 200+ coach party guests and only a handful of individual bookings. Our bedroom, on the third floor, was spacious but had no chest of drawers to unpack clothes into. The room and bathroom were clean, but very old fashioned. There were just two electric sockets which were used for the tv and kettle. No other sockets. Rooms were serviced at irregular intervals. If we required any hotel items, for example toilet rolls, we had to go down three floors to ask at reception. Bins in the room were left unemptied for several days. Towels left in the bath to be changed werenot serviced daily. The hotel caters for parties if over 200 elderly guests, many of which have mobility problems, but there is only one tiny lift which will only accommodate one person with one case to the first floor. We then had to walk along a corridor to reach the next lift to ascend another two floors. On our day of departure both lifts were out of use necessitating carrying several cases down three double sets of stairs. There was no assistance offered by the management. There are just three disabled parking places for all these senior aged guests. A breakfast buffet was available but if you wanted a fried egg you had to walk around the restaurant to find a waitress who would then need to walk to the kitchen to order one. Despite all of this we enjoyed our holiday.

Absolutely appalling experience at the Caledonian Hotel, Isle of Wight. We arrived at 2:50 PM and were still made to wait until 3:05 PM because of their ridiculous “3 PM means 3 PM” policy. When we politely asked if we could check in just 10 minutes early, the receptionist responded rudely and dismissively: “I have told you 3 PM means 3 PM.” There was no courtesy, no flexibility, and certainly no customer service — despite the hotel clearly having plenty of rooms available. To make matters worse, we requested a table fan on arrival and were told it would be sent to the room within 10 minutes. That never happened. After repeatedly waiting and following up, we only got the fan late in the evening — and even then, we had to go and collect it ourselves from reception. The staff attitude was cold, rude, and completely unhelpful. Hospitality clearly means nothing here. A hotel stay should feel welcoming, not like you’re inconveniencing the staff by simply asking for basic service. Very disappointing experience and definitely not somewhere I would recommend.

It is a really beautyful place.

We had a 1 night stay at this hotel as a family of 4 adults. It was quite a convenient stay. The rooms were clean and tidy. The staff was very friendly. There were quite a number of shops nearby and it was a short walk to the beach and the promenade along it where we could find a good restaurant for our dinner too.

we had a great stay, a couple of gremlins but not serious The room was comfortable but dated Shower pressure was below expectation some Fixtures not operating properly Apart from that it was a beautiful charismatic place with a bit of a ghostly vibe ❤️ Staff were fabulous and efficient no complaints there 👌

I was delighted with my stay. Yet I suggest that it's clearly mentioned to guests, that it's high up a hill. My body has copd lung disease, it would have been good to know about the hill. Best wishes to all of the staff. The wi-fi in room 105 was intermittent

Steep steps to property entrance and a heavy door to push open. Very dangerous for older people.

Staff very welcoming, breakfast very good apart from burnt toast. Rooms are quite tired. Windows need replacing as ours did not close, so had to change rooms. Bathrooms retiled, but paintwork on doors and skirtings need cleaning and re-painting. Price was reasonable .

Only stayed one night.

Our dog was made welcome. Had to change room, due to a maintenance issue. But nothing was too much for the staff. Got a cup of tea each as too early for check-in (bad weather why we were early). Staff were fantastic.

Me and my partner upgraded to a better room but unfortunately we were woken by dogs barking through the night and early hours of Sunday morning, so was not very impressed with that, otherwise the room was nice and clean and comfortable, we had a breakfast which was very nice and a good choice of things to have.

All the chairs in the bar and lounge had sides to them not suitable for big people apart from that the hotel was very nice

Clean room, quiet stay which is what I wanted as it was a work stay

There was no information whatsoever in our room i.e. Dining Times or contact numbers . I was taken ill overnight and into the whole of next day , tried to obtain Doctor via 111 but gave up . A member of Cleaning staff , , was very helpful , gave us number for Reception and Ferry Company . Reported to Reception being ill but male person offered no help . I managed to bring forward Ferry to next day hoping I would be able to drive . Luckily I felt able to attempt journey home . We struggled with our cases and discovered a Lift that we had not been told about ! I reported to the female receptionist that we felt neglected and she had an entry on a large notepad recording me being unwell and to check on us . Despite this and also never appearing for breakfast or dinner we had paid for , no one contacted us . Very poor management .

Booked this hotel May stayed here years ago and wanted to take my parents back. It's a little dated but could not fault the breakfast or entertainment. Sally on reception is a credit to the hotel she was so friendly and helpful. Places are walkable about 10-15 mins to the beach and local bars. Would return
