We have never visited The Lakes and wanted an overnight stay to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Would highly recommend staying here. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. The food for the evening meal in the restaurant was lovely followed by breakfast the next day, with plenty of options. Also helped with have parking facilities on site and free for visitors to the hotel. Was not disappointed with our stay, and would definitely visit again in the future

Power went out for 6 hours, so we had to move rooms and then we were asked to move back to original room! One of the staff was very rude to my wife.

Lovely hotel with lots of character

Clean room - good size although rather dated. Bathroom needs updating and shower door did not close properly. Really good breakfast and evening meal. Service staff at breakfast were excellent, helpful (plenty of tips as to where to visit), and exceptionally friendly. Evening wait-on staff - one young lady was extremely attentive although the other one was less so. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained, the external of the building needs a lot of investment. However all in all the stay which we booked through Hotel.com was reasonably priced and overall we enjoyed our peaceful stay.

Lovely place to stay for the western lakes. Rooms very clean. Great history good parking and fab breakfast. Staff all very welcoming too.

From the initial homely welcome upon arrival to our leaving everything was truly 5 star in the very relaxed, informal but professional service we received. Brilliant! it takes a lot of care and attention to the way informality is served but this hotel has got it just right. A perfect break, Sunday dinner is spectacular, peaceful nights sleep in our four poster and a luxury shower exceeded our expectations and 'we'll be back' best wishes to all and thank you for a very relaxing stay.

The owners were amazing; very attentive. Harley the dog is gorgeous. The evening meal was excellent quality and very good value considering the amount of food. Our room (Copeland) was massive and a good price. The jacuzzi bath was great, the bed was huge and comfortable. Could have benefited from a tiny bit of TLC, e.g. bathroom door wouldn't stay fully closed and the tops of the tall windows needed a slight clean. Overall it was still 5 stars and we would stay there again.

Returning to this historic hotel for a third visit was just as enjoyable as ever. Although my room was smaller this time, it was still beautifully maintained and very comfortable. I was especially grateful to be allowed an early check-in at no extra cost, which made my trip even more relaxing. The food remains outstanding, and the staff continue to provide a genuinely warm, friendly, and helpful service throughout. I was in Whitehaven for an event over the early May bank holiday weekend, but truthfully, the chance to stay here again was a big part of the reason for my visit. A consistently excellent experience - I wouldn’t hesitate to return again.

This is a wonderful hotel, we felt really welcome and value for the money nothing was too much trouble for us and the dog. The room we had was very large with a huge bed. Will love to go back sometime.

All staff members were brilliant! Room was amazing! Did have an issue with heating and they addressed this issue the best they could. It’s a beautiful place and will return.

Great attentive staff and a wonderful hotel. The breakfast and dinner were excellent and the bar had a wide choice including local beers.

Wonderful atmosphere

The hotel has so much history and the church across the road is beautiful. The rooms were warm, immaculate and the medieval stairs are a must. Food was all homemade and the breakfast was plentyful. Will definitely stay there again when I'm in the area.
