To check in to the hotel, guests were required to use an iPad. Check-in started at 3:00 p.m., but our room had not yet been cleaned, so the automatic check-in process did not work. The staff were in their office, and I had to go there three times to ask for help before someone finally assisted me. Each time, they simply referred me back to the iPad.
The room itself was clean. There were some signs of wear and tear, but nothing out of the ordinary.
During the night, a fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate the building. Some of the emergency exit doors were closed, so we had to search for an alternative way out. After the fire brigade arrived and eventually left, nobody informed guests when it was safe to re-enter the hotel. People were left standing outside, looking at each other and wondering whether it was okay to go back inside. There was no staff member present to provide any information.
We stayed on the fifth floor, and the alarm on that floor continued sounding throughout the night, resulting in a very poor night's sleep.
I understand that a fire alarm is not necessarily the hotel's fault. However, I would have expected someone to inform guests when it was safe to return to the building and to ensure that the alarm was switched off afterward.
