Beautiful hotel, especially the main reception and restaurant. The room was basic but clean and comfortable, the view from the room was stunning. There is a very convenient car park right next to the hotel if you can't get parked at the hotel, and is probably cheaper if you arrive later. The breakfast was great, with lots of options and staff were friendly and welcoming. Overall would definitely stay here again.

Hotel is quite dark and old fashioned. Location is great. Staff at reception, bar and cleaning were excellent excellent. Problems at breakfast. Some staff were unhelpful. Selection of food was just okay. Quality was good. On one occasion I asked a member of staff when would tomatoes, beans, mushrooms and scrambled egg be replenished. Answer was we found a hair in mushrooms so had to throw them away. Other food will be out when it's out. Waited nearly 20 minutes for food. This was at 8.45 a.m. and breakfast didn't finish until 9.30 a m. Disappointing as other days there was plenty of selection. Parking was good too, although we had to pay £6 per day.

The Royal is situated in a very good position, walking distance to the town centre and to walk on the coastline.

Really lovely hotel, location is ideal to get out and about around Whitby with a view of the abbey and the whale arches at your doorstep. The bed was super comfortable and a big smart tv in the room too which I know isn’t a big deal for some people but we like to watch a film before bed. My only issue I had was when we were checking in, we got to the hotel around 8:30pm which is understandable that it is way past check in time but there was nobody on reception so we had to wait around for 20 mins until someone finally noticed us as there wasn’t a bell or anything to try get attention. I understand they were probably helping out in the bar etc as it was very busy but it just made us feel a bit ignored and not valued as a guest.

The hotel is being totally refurbished and yet all of he staff are helpful and very friendly.

The room was excellent with a very comfy king-size bed beautiful view of the sea and Abbey. The only downsize was the bathroom is need of a refurb as the shower cubicle is very small and the doorway is very small. Has a bath that we did use made the bathroom a little cramped. It is due a refurb so be great to come back. The breakfast was very good but would of liked some more options for vegetarians. The bar was lovely with a nice ambience in The Fat Badger Brand

We were first offered a room with no views of anything as the windows were boarded up. The hotel was/is going through some refurbishment and the decor in the room we turned down and the one we accepted was however first class.The decor was very tastful, the furnishings and fittings were to a very very high standard. Bed was huge and the sheets & pillows were very comfortable....... Egyptian cotton?Probably would have extended our stay had we had a sea view but on whole we'd definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. Would we stay here again, definitely without hesitation.

Great hotel nice view over looking the sea. Short walk down into Whitby. Will be staying again on our next visit to Whitby.

Absolutely brilliant, beautiful victorian Hotel,retaining alot of original features... staff are amazing ALWAYS happy to help...especially Dannie, Ellie and reception.... food is a must ive the best steaks ever here... we go about 5 times a year.... due to the service, cleanliness and value for money....

Friendly staff, good breakfast, clean room, close to Whitby whalebone arch so good views. Enjoyed our one night stay.

Kerry on reception is an absolute credit to you not only was she helpful with us checking in, sorting out our Drinks vouchers pointing us in right direction for food , impartial too , even then thou we dined in your restaurant, where the food was not only delicious but well portioned too. And for your new 2 week old manager looks like a good find for you as he hospitable friendly and knowledgeable. Back to Kerry thou not only was she helpful to us but also fellow guests an elderly lady who she sorted a sandwich for and then assisted her back to her room. Gentleman on the morning desk could learn alot from her .Breakfast choices no issues and plentiful and tasty, staff there also friendly and with a welcoming smile. Room very spacious clean warm and the sea/abbey view excellent. Many thanks we will be back in the future

It was more than what I expected. Great room with a great view in a great hotel in a beautiful town. Food and service were first class. I was a chef many moons ago and worked in some top hotels from London, to Harpenden to Hereford and not to forget, chef for Celtic Football Cluband this hotel would be in that league. Thank you for a wonderful short break. I'll be back someday.

Very good food. Great sea view. Any problems are delt with straight away.

We had a great stay in Whitby, staff were all knowledgeable and friendly. Breakfast was okay for buffet style but nothing special. Think it would be wise to upgrade the lighting in the rooms as they are very dark with only wall lights and a lamp. If you do need parking it is best to call ahead to reserve. It was not made clear this was the procedure for their main car park, there is also a small overflow which was full and we had to use public parking for double the cost.
