Upon arrival at the Chancery Hotel, I suspected that its target demographic was not jet-lagged Americans arriving after an overnight flight to Dublin. Too many room features were quirky and non-intuitive. Curtains-that opened — and sometimes closed — without prompting. A bathroom door without a knob or handle. (There were electronic controls which made it very easy inadvertently to open the door while in the bathroom,)
After a good night’s sleep, most of the room’s quirks became less exasperating. The room was comfortable and well-furnished, if a bit cramped for the price point. The hotel is a moderate walk from major attractions The hotel is on a narrow street across from the western wall of Dublin Castle, which assured little street noise for rooms at the front of the hotel.
But that street can occasionally close for official events at the caste, one of which was occurring the morning we checked out. The hotel staff exerted strenuous efforts to make sure we and our luggage were on a cab so we could catch our train to our next stop. For this reason, I award the hotel a rating of 4.51/5.
