A bit tired and could have been a bit cleaner, not bad position, public carpark quite close and not a problem.

Fantastic room & brilliant staff

Great stay although short lovely building, decor and rooms.

This is the noisiest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. At 2200 roadworks started outside my window and didn’t stop until gone 0400. The hotel were aware this was happening but failed to mention to their guests when checking in. The windows are old and don’t stop any sound. It was like the digger was in my room. Then at 0500 I could hear someone bumping their suitcase down every single step. The shower is so poorly maintained and full of limescale water shoots everywhere. Almost scolded myself trying to turn the taps on. The bathroom could do with a deep clean. The hotel and restaurant would do well to invest in some air conditioning as the heat is unbearable. I’ve had better stays at the services hotel. On a positive. The restaurant staff are wonderfully helpful and attentive. The food is really good

Unfortunately, the room temperature was hot beyond any reasonable level. Being British and living in an old home here in the UK I understand how hot upper level rooms can get in the extreme heat and was expecting the temperature to be excessive. The actual temperature was beyond extreme and the fan provided did not oscillate and was extremely noisy. I’m not sure rooms should be sold and certainly not a full price in such extreme temperatures. Thankfully we had booked to go to an event that ended very late at night but even so it was still causing us to drip with sweat and a very uncomfortable night lacking in sleep. I honestly can’t recommend staying here during the summer months.

The hotel wasn't large, but it was very charming, offering a lovely English country villa experience. It was a very nice hotel, and the food in the restaurant was quite delicious. It would have been perfect if it had air conditioning.

Very friendly and helpful staff make the Gem a good place to stay. The twin room was clean and pleasantly furnished, but when the weather is hot, as it was last weekend, the room gets very hot. The fan provided helped, but only one small window can be opened in the room and similar in the en-suite bathroom, so little air movement. A portable air conditioner would be a possible solution. The road outside the room is also busy from quite early on a Sunday morning, so even if more windows opened, you wouldn’t want to leave them open all night unless you want an early wake up call from the traffic. Shame about the heat as other than that it was a pleasant place to stay and there is an excellent Mediterranean (Turkish) restaurant just down the road if you fancy something a little more exotic to eat.

Very attentive staff, well mannered and knowledgeable…… the Owner particularly helpful and generous. Location excellent for Stansted Airport and many local amenities.

The Gem is a pleasant place to stay but has a few drawbacks. The is no on site parking which is unfortunate, they don't have aircon but the main problem for me was when I tried to checkout at 7.20am there was no receptionist and I couldn't access the main building to drop off my keys. They should have a box outside for guests to drop their keys when they wish to leave early.

Nice room, Ive stayed in most of these rooms over the past 10 yeara and was last here in 2024. Breakfast was just average and no where near as good as it used to be when it was called The Linden. Had problems checkiing out at 7.30 in the morning as no staff were around so i had to leave my key in the room.. Still nice but not as good as it waa..

Cobwebs in numerous corners, 3 spiders in the room, broken lights, bath and sink didn’t drain

Was in the area on business. Nice, clean, decent sized room and en-suite shower room. Friendly welcoming staff. Only had breakfast in the restaurant so can’t comment on evening food but my full English breakfast was lovely. Only very minor downside is the lack of on site customer parking but I used a local car park across the road which was free overnight and reasonable rates at other times. Would come back again

We recently stayed at the Gem on a Saturday night and it was a fantastic experience. The hotel is stylish, well run and the staff can't do enough to assist you. Everyone was so professional. Also worth noting is that the Full English breakfast is excellent.

Definitely recommend, very helpful and attentive staff . Room was beautiful and breakfast was excellent. Only problem was stake was little raw when asked for medium rae . But overall a wonderful break and well looked after.

We checked in late due to our car breaking down at Stansted airport and needing a place to stay for the night. We were met with very friendly and welcoming staff who upgraded our room straight away and made us feel at home after a very stressful day! Drinks at the bar with a cheese board in the evening was just what we needed, and the breakfast was gorgeous. All in all a very lovely stay at the Gem.
