Fantastic hotel in a beautiful location. All the staff were very polite and the check-in staff couldn't have been more welcoming. The room was very clean with a lovely view across countryside. We stayed on a Sunday so had a roast dinner in the evening which was very high quality and a very generous portion. We got 30% of as my wife has a blue light card. This doesn't apply to drinks but includes food and accommodation so don't forget to bring yours if you have one. There is a good size free car park. You just have to enter your registration number on the tablet at reception. If you are an ale drinker they have Nethergate from near by Long melford that was superb. I would stay here again without hesitation.

First thing I have to say is my review is of no detriment to the staff as all of them are polite and attentive. The hotel itself is in dire need of a clean. The bar was ok and the sitting area upstairs was nice but again in need of a clean. Our room considering I booked for a superior double at £140 was at best a basic double that should be half that cost. Bathroom was tiny and poor too. Breakfast room was small and overcrowded with the staff again trying their best.

The room we had was a little small but adequate for a short stay. Price very reasonable. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast, food was good but they didn't replenish quickly enough. We had to ask for more coffee, pastries and eggs many times. However, the staff always acted to resolve the issues as soon as they could.

Restaurant had too many flies for my liking. We stayed in Room 2. The WiFi in that room is virtually non-existent.. TV remote control had no batteries. One wall light was not working (bulb had blown). Surfaces of desk and bedside cabinets were “sticky”. Not sure what they use to clean the surfaces with but they could do with finding something better. Hotel needs a good clean and a refresh. Hotel staff were all really great though. Ambiance very good. Beds & room servicing were all very good.

Comfortable stay at the Mill. Food in restaurant was good and fantastic views over common land from several outdoor seating areas. Good bars and excellent service. No lift

There is much to like about this place, however, its age presents challenges for the owners in balancing the rustic qualities with modern facilities? Would I stay here again, probably not, especially in the summer. It was impossible to sleep without air-conditioning, and, bearing in mind that overnight accommodation is the primary reason for booking. It was so hot, that I left on the second night of my stay at 4.30 am to drive home. Indeed, my friends made alternative arrangements when they were aware of the lack of air-conditioning.

Hotel has had an exterior revamp since we last stayed it looks very smart, room clean ,evening meal very tasty and well presented,breakfast buffet good choice available. Staff all very pleasant and welcoming. Good value for money

We booked this hotel when we travelled from Kent to a 50th wedding anniversary. The location is beautiful, right on the river with country views. A short walk into the pretty town. The hotel was very nice, the breakfast plentiful with a good choice. We also ate in the restaurant and had a very nice meal. The room was large and had a nice bathroom with a great shower. There is no lift in this hotel, but there are rooms nearby which might suit people who would have difficulty climbing the stairs. There are also low beams, which are charming but be aware if you are tall. All in all we were very happy with our stay. Sudbury and the surrounding areas are lovely. We went into Cambridge one day using the Trumpington park & ride, and went to Clare castle and country park. I would happily recommend this hotel.

In the interest of fairness I have stayed at this hotel before and I had a much better stay… won’t be going back. This time i was given a room in an annex to the property. It was the hottest night of the year and none of the windows in the room would stay open – the window framed looked rotten and locks didn’t work.The room was boiling and the fan was plugged right over the other side of the room and so was useless. The plug sockets either side of the bed were not UK standard so I couldn’t plug the fan in next to my bed nor could I plug in my phone next to the bed. I’ve never seen anything like this in my life. Had a terrible night sleep. Went down to reception to ask to be moved. The receptionist said she couldn’t do anything for me. I went down again and asked for an extension cord so I could actually bring the fan close to my bed – the extension cord didn’t work. I had to return to reception yet again to get another extension cord that finally worked and the fan was able to move closer to my bed. It’s just too hard to work for a bad night sleep. On a sidenote, my son was also staying in the hotel and he also had no plugs near his bed so his fan was on the other side of the room and he couldn’t charge any of his tech or use his phone as it had to be plugged in far away from the bedside What hotel room doesn’t have plug sockets next to the bed? This is two rooms in the property two randomly assigned rooms both of them with no plugs. Definitely won’t be staying again.

Hotels in a lovely location. We did not eat at hotel so can't comment on the food. Parking was close by. Staff were friendly. Lovely bar aswell and outside seating area

Great location. Super clean room with a comfortable bed. Great water meadow walks. Highly recommended.

The Mill is a gem of a hotel with a picturesque location and walking distance from the main town facilities. The bedrooms are well-equipped and private parking is free for guests. Even though the hotel is very well appointed, the staff are friendly but not stuffy and it has a small hotel feel. The bar and dining room is spacious with the feature water wheel and views across the water meadows. The food is slightly more expensive than average pub grub, but it is tasty with good size portions. Looking forward to our next stay.

Dirty towels on the corridor floor for at least 20 hours. Room carpet badly stained. Room smelt musty and was tired and poorly equipped. Key cards kept failing and had to be reprogrammed. Communal areas were grim and unwelcoming. A very depressing stay despite the staff trying to be helpful.

The Mill Hotel is in an excellent position, overlooking the mill pond and adjoining common. There is ample parking nearby and it is just a short walk into the lovely town of Sudbury. There is an attractive restaurant and bar, with feature water wheel, and the food was good. The rooms were well equipped and the bed very comfortable. Due to the historic age of the hotel, there's no lift, which would have caused me problems if my room had been on an upper floor.
