The Mill Hotel

I think even Basil Fawlty would have raised an eyebrow. Room was very dusty, generally dirty, and our first impressions were ones of lack of care, attention, and standards. The last users contact lenses were next to the toilet, the shower cubicle was covered in mould, the beams thick with dust, and the mattress so old and worn that you could feel the individual springs, let alone find yourself being swallowed by the bed itself due to its age. The night was incredibly hot, and no climate control of any sort existed. We stayed over Christmas 2025, and had the window open and the dusty fan on full our entire stay, just to make it a bareable temperature. Cleaners left pillows on corridor floors. The door to the room did not even fit the frame, with over an inch of space at the bottom- something I am sure must be a fire safety hazard/failure. The windown blind chain was floor-length, not tied up, and clearly also a choking risk for children. We only had breakfast at the hotel, and that was just as poor as the roof. I think the Little Chef in its day would have been preferable. Bread run out, pastries run out, orange juice empty (only to be refilled with cheap long-life cartons), "hot" food lukewarm at best, and even the lid of the container fell off mid serving, only to just be left on the floor and not replaced. At no point at exit did anyone ask how our stay was, whether there were any issues, or if any improvements could be made. I would not stay again.

Friendly and cosy stay. Parking on site warm room warm water and comfortable bed.

Staff, the lady on reception when we checked in was exceptional.

A bit dated, bathroom needs a refurb but otherwise, lots of character

We have stayed here before,but unfortunately had hardly any sleep due to loud people in next room.delt with night porter,we had enough by 1am loud tv and banging on the headboard. So not impressed this time

Fantastic beautiful hotel

The room was nice , it did smell a bit damp but as it was right next to the river that was probably why , the shower was broken but we reported that before we left , other than that it was a pleasant stay with a lovely breakfast

Sadly, there is no lift and for my wife to climb to the third floor was a challenge. We understand that the listed status of the building does not permit a lift. Could this be reviewed? Otherwise a lovely hotel.

I would have liked to see some fresh fruit salad at breakfast. Also more choice of breads. The bedroom was very comfortable and relaxing. We were fascinated by the old mill wheel in the bar. Beautiful view of the Meadows.

Lovely location however our room was absolutely tiny and had no hot water so couldn’t even shower in the morning. Complained and was told that management would be informed; still waiting for a call. Very poor
