Sounkyo is a quaint little resort town with not much in the way of facilities, but this hotel helps make up for that. They provided dinner and breakfast so I didn't have to worry about finding a restaurant in the freezing cold. They also have a hot spring, a place to chill and play billiards, and even a movie showing every night in which I regrettably could not partake. I also stayed during Sounkyo's Ice Waterfall Festival, which was marvelous and a bit different from the other winter festivals I saw in Hokkaido. It costs money to enter but if you leave you can re-enter so long as you flash the postcard they give you (that's your ticket). That really helped when I was hurting from the cold and needed to duck back into my hotel to eat and warm up. I can definitely recommend this place in the winter and I'd gladly stay again if I ever visit again in any other season.
Our stay in the Kumoi has been nothing but great. Cozy rooms, beautiful lobby, clean onsen and lovely staff. We had both, breakfast and dinner, which always were delicious and prepared with care.
We were told that there was wifi in the lobby only, but we had no problem connecting on the second floor.
Would recommend!
